There were some notable upsets on day one of the 2019 Cape Town Sevens, which have set us up for an intriguing day two. South Africa have a tough day ahead with fixtures against Fiji and USA, the top two teams from last season’s World Series.
South Africa did not fall foul of an upset on day one as they cruised past Japan 49-0. This sets them up nicely for their Pool A clash with Fiji at 13:51.
Other major sevens teams were not so lucky. The first men’s match on Friday saw Ireland shock Australia 26-21 before Kenya beat Samoa 24-19 in the other Pool D clash.
The top two teams will progress in the Cup and Kenya and Ireland have each given themselves a fighting chance.
The Blitzboks’ first match is against Fiji at 13:51. They’ll cap off day two at the 2019 Cape Town Sevens with their final group game against USA at 20:03.
