Kazier Chiefs' title hopes suffered a blow over the weekend.
Kaizer Chiefs have suffered a surprise 2-1 loss at home to Maritzburg United on Saturday evening, a defeat which puts a dent in their bid to win the PSL title.
The result at the Soweto Stadium was secured by a brace from Daylon Claasen and saw the Team of Choice strengthen their grip on sixth place, while the Amakhosi remain top of the log but their lead is down to seven points over nearest chasers Mamelodi Sundowns, who have a game in hand.
The Amakhosi threw everything they had at Maritzburg in the dying minutes of the match, but the visiting team held firm in defence – led by the excellent Ofori – to claim three points and signal a potential turning point in the title battle.
The teams will return to Premiership action in two weeks, with Maritzburg at home to Stellenbosch on Friday 28 February and Chiefs facing Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates on Saturday 29 February.
