Super Rugby 2020 in pictures: Stormers make it four on the bounce vs Jaguares

The Stormers remain unbeaten after four fixtures in the 2020 Super Rugby season.

Pretty it was not, but the Stormers have kept their perfect start to the Super Rugby season intact. They beat the Jaguares 17-7 in a scrap of a match at Newlands on Saturday afternoon, making it four wins from four so far this season.

At the break, the score was 3-0 with Damian Willemse scoring the only points of the opening half.
Herschel Jantjies and Ruhan Nel scored the hosts’ two tries int he second half with Willemse adding the extras as the Stormers extended their lead to 17-0. Having not conceded a point at home all season, the Stormers might be somewhat irked with eventually allowing the Jaguares over the tryline.

Regardless, John Dobson’s men put in a good shift and are sitting pretty at the top of the South African conference with 17 points.

The Stormers can make it five from five when they host the Blues at Newlands next week.

The Newlands faithful arrived under gloomy skies, but a familiar cheery face in the crowd almost certainly lightened the mood. World Cup-winning captain Siya Kolisi was happy to pose for photos while watching from the sideline. Kolisi is still nursing a knee injury which is expected to keep him out of action until March at the earliest.

The Stormers certainly aren’t playing champagne rugby this season, but they are writing the textbook for defence.

Even Sevens ace, Seabelo Senatla, hasn’t quite managed to find the spark that set the World Series alight.

But once in a match, they do deliver a bit of magic – quite often through the twinkle feet of Herschel Jantjies. And like all good things, it’s well worth waiting for.
