Highlands Park will aim to silence visitors Mamelodi Sundowns in a Nedbank Cup quarterfinal at Makhulong Stadium on Saturday, 14 March 2020, kick-off at 18:00 CAT.
Highlands have earned their place in the final eight thanks to victories over Uthongathi FC and Kaizer Chiefs. The latter victory over the Amakhosi was earned on penalties at the Makhulong venue and the Lions of the North will hope to claim another major scalp at their home venue this coming weekend.
Owen Da Gama’s side come into the game on the back of a 0-2 loss at home to SuperSport United and will be eager to bounce back to peak form.
Sundowns, meanwhile, have beaten SuperSport (1-0) and Vaal University of Technology (2-0) at home in their Nedbank Cup thus far.
The Brazilians, after falling out of the CAF Champions League last weekend, have focused in on domestic duties and come into this match on the back of a key 1-0 win away to Stellenbosch in the league in midweek – a result which has boosted their hopes of defending the championship.
In head-to-head terms, Highlands and Sundowns have met in one previous cup match – a Nedbank Cup last 32 clash in 2016 which ‘Downs won 1-0 – and six games across all competitions since 2015/16. The Brazilians boast an unbeaten record, with four wins and two draws, while they were 1-0 home victors when the teams met in a league game earlier this season (October 2019) thanks to a goal from Mauricio Affonso.
The winners will advance to the Nedbank Cup semifinals, which are set to be played on the weekend of April 18-19.
