COVID-19: Impact on sport in South Africa and globally

This live blog is intended to be a community project to keep track of the latest developments in how COVID-19 is impacting sport around the world.

As the global outbreak of COVID-19 continues, we will be publishing – and updating – a series of articles looking at how the pandemic is impacting various sporting events. You can find all the updates on the impact of the coronavirus on various sporting events around the world here.

Deprecated – we’ve opted to put this project on hold for now, there is just too much uncertainty.

It has been an unprecedented week in sport. This article has taken various different forms. From filtering by sport, to filtering by country, filtering by events postponed vs events completely cancelled. There is no precedent for best format of such in unprecedented times.

With so much uncertainty, anything might be outdated within minutes of publication. And in times of such uncertainty, we have to do what we can to limit any sort of “fake news”.

What has become apparent, though, is that none of us can do this alone. So, while we keep doing what we are doing and looking out for any news on when sport might return, we’re also opening up the live blog for your comments. If we’ve missed something, let us know through the contact us page.

The chatroom function on the live updates was a bit buggy, so we have removed it until we find a better solution. We’d like to implement it for those of us who just miss having a chat about sport, so if you have any suggestions, feel free to let us know.

We’re working on getting the list of sporting events impacted by COVID-19 up to date. It is published below the live updates and can be filtered if you’re looking for a specific sport.

If you can’t find it, check back tomorrow, since we are currently busy adding the events we know of. If you still can’t find it, let us know and we’ll add it once verified.
