Garmin Connect outage continues into Sunday – company issues FAQ

Garmin's outage, which affects Garmin Connect amongst other services, was still down on Sunday.

The Garmin outage which affected Garmin Connect and FlyGarmin, according to some reports, continued on Sunday. The outage started on Thursday, with users unable to sync their data via the apps on both mobile and desktop.

The outage – which also impacted Garmin’s support channels – has led to speculation that the company has been hit by ransomware attack. The response from Garmin has been lacking thus far, with the outage initially greeted by stone silence, until a vague statement followed.

The outage affected users worldwide and the company finally issued a statement on Sunday to answer some of the questions users have had. But even that statement and the FAQs, were somewhat vague without much substance or any real assurance.

According to the status on the Garmin website, Garmin Connect, Garmin Dive, Garmin Golf, vivofit Jr, ConnectIQ and LiveTrack are all the platforms currently down.

At the time of writing, Garmin also listed these features on their software as being down.

The statement, posted on the Garmin website, read:

Garmin is currently experiencing an outage that affects Garmin services including Garmin Connect and flyGarmin. As a result of the outage, some features and services across these platforms are unavailable to customers. Additionally, our product support call centers are affected by the outage and as a result, we are currently unable to receive any calls, emails or online chats.

We are working to restore our systems as quickly as possible and apologize for the inconvenience. Additional updates will be provided as they become available.

Garmin also added a FAQ statement, in which it suggests there is currently no indication that personal data has been impacted.

Was any Garmin Connect customer data lost during the outage?

Although Garmin Connect is not accessible during the outage, activity and health and wellness data collected from Garmin devices during the outage is stored on the device and will appear in Garmin Connect once the user syncs their device.

I’m an inReach customer. Can I still use SOS and messaging during the outage?

inReach SOS and messaging remain fully functional and are not impacted by the outage. This includes the MapShare website and email reply page.

I have a new Garmin product. When will I be able to pair it with Garmin Connect?

We are working as quickly as possible to restore Garmin Connect functionality.

Was my data impacted as a result of the outage?

Garmin has no indication that this outage has affected your data, including activity, payment or other personal information.
