So you’ve used skills cheats in The Sims 4, but your Sim just is not getting where you want them to be. If you want to resort to Sims 4 career cheats, that’s okay. We are not going to judge. These are actually some of the easier Sims 4 cheats to use, because the options are not as varied as the skills cheat, for example.
If you are new to using cheats, you might want to read our starter guide to Sims 4 cheats. We’ll explain everything about career cheats as clearly as possible, but it might be a useful references for newbies.
Career cheats for The Sims 4: What can you do?
There are a few basic Sims 4 career cheats available. All of these are useful if you want your Sim to follow a specific storyline, but you do not have the time to go through the whole work-performance-get-promoted mission.

Career cheats can help you refine your Sim’s story or help them earn that promotion much faster. There are four basic career cheats used in The Sims 4. These are:
- Promote
- Demote
- Add career
- Remove career
Career cheats are also used to cheat school performance for younger Sims. They follow the same syntax as the career cheats.
The first part of our Sims 4 career cheats guide will deal with the basic syntax for entering cheats. We will also list the full cheat variant for each career to make it super easy for you to copy and paste your cheat codes and get your Sim ahead in the game.
Remember to turn cheats on first
Before you enter your cheat codes, you need to open what is known as the “cheats dialogue box” or the “cheats console”. To get started with Sims 4 cheats, press CTRL+SHIFT+C on your keyboard if you’re using a PC. To open The Sims 4 cheats console on a Mac, press CMD+SHIFT+C.
Now you need to actually turn the cheats on. That’s the easy part. In the cheats box, simply type testingcheats on. Sometimes this doesn’t work and you have to type testingcheats true instead. You’ll know you’ve done it correctly when the dialogue box tells you “Cheats are enabled” .
Sims 4 career cheats to get promoted
As the name states, this cheat is used to quickly promote a Sim without needing to meet the requirements. This can be useful for many reasons.
Maybe you lost a save file or maybe you have a specific storyline in mind for an elder Sim and you want them to reach their full career potential before Grim comes to visit.
Whatever your reason for wanting to use Sims 4 career cheats to get promoted, it is super simple.
Once you have turned cheats on, you just have to enter Careers.promote into the cheats console. Make sure the Sim whose career you want to cheat is selected when you do this.
So, for example, if you wanted to promote your Sim in the athlete career, you would enter Careers.promote athletic into the cheats console and be promoted.
Sims 4 career cheats for quick, multiple promotions
All you have to do is repeat the cheat code for promotion as many times as you like. Your Sim will rise through the ranks without even needing a single skill. Yeah, we know… it doesn’t feel right, but that’s why it’s called cheating.
Careers that have multiple words should not have any spaces. The only space is after the initial cheat syntax, for example: Careers.promote secretagent.
There are some cases, specifically in the freelance career branches, where the cheat code will require an underscore.

Career cheats to demote your Sim
The opposite is also true for Sims 4 career cheats. Sometimes you might not want a happy ending to your Sim story. The demote career cheat works in the exact same way as the promote one – simply replace promote with demote in the syntax as found below.
It is important to note that you cannot demote your Sim back beyond careers with chosen branches.

Sims 4 cheats for adding or removing careers
These cheats are not used often, but if you would like to quickly add or remove a career for the selected Sim, you can use the Careers.add_career cheat to add a career or Careers.remove_career cheat to remove it. The remove career cheat will just make your Sim instantly quick their current career.
This career cheat is a bit risky though and can sometimes cause games to crash. If you are going to use this cheat, make sure you have your save file backed up.
It is much easier and safer to just use the promote career cheats if you want to get your Sim to a specific level of a job. We have included the list of these Sims 4 career cheats below, however, we do not recommend using these. As with all cheats in the game, you use all of them at your own risk.
