Super Rugby Aotearoa Round Two: Standings and recap

The ten-time champions wasted no time in reminding everyone just why they’re hot favourites to win New Zealand’s domestic crown.

Defending Super Rugby champions, the Crusaders, announced their intent for the Super Rugby Aotearoa competition with a thumping 39-25 win over the Hurricanes in the second round of fixtures on Sunday.

The ten-time champions wasted no time in reminding everyone just why they’re hot favourites to win New Zealand’s domestic crown.

Sevu Reece, Braydon Ennor, Jack Goodhue, David Havili and Richie Mo’unga scored tries while Mo’unga also succeeded with four conversions and two penalties.

Jackson Garden-Bachop led the way for the home side with a 20-point haul courtesy of five penalties, a drop-goal and a conversion to Asafo Aumua’s try.

The Blues, however, remain sitting pretty at the top of the Super Rugby Aotearoa Super Rugby standings, albeit having played an extra fixture. They notched up a rare win over the Chiefs in Saturday’s match, winning 12-24 with the scoreline somewhat belying the tenseness of the clash.

Round 3 will offer the Blues a chance to stretch their lead when they host the Highlanders on Saturday while the Crusaders entertain the struggling Chiefs.
