The Sims 4 celebrated its sixth birthday on Wednesday. The fourth edition of the popular simulation franchise has built up a cult following of millions of players all around the world in that time, but the anniversary was met with an eery silence from official channels.
Other than thank yous to birthday messages from players, there was no acknowledgment of the anniversary on the game’s official social media channels.
As one Sims YouTuber put it in a Tweet
Earlier in the day, an unannounced future stuff pack for The Sims 4 was leaked on the Origin platform. There were no details about the pack, just placeholder text.
One Simmer who spotted the leak said they were able to purchase the pack, but could not download it as there was no content available.
The placeholder was later taken down, but, much like when the icon for the new Sims 4 Star Wars pack was leaked, there was no word from The Sims 4 team about the leak.
The official announcement of The Sims 4 Star Wars Journey to Batuu game pack has not gone down well with players. Many feel that the crossover is out of place in the game.
The pack is set to be released on 8 September 2020 and while the new game play trailer for The Sims 4 Star Wars pack did give some insight about what players can expect, there are still some questions over what replay value the pack will add.
The Sims 4’s damp squib birthday
Earlier in the year, the franchise celebrated its 20th anniversary. The occasion was marked with hot tub added to the base game in an update. Another event that did not go down well with Sims players.
Many hoped that the sixth birthday of The Sims 4 would bring something more exciting, especially since the 2019 update was quite significant.
But it turned out to feel more like a birthday party in The Sims 4, where a caterer is hired to bake a cake and ends up living their best life and doing anything but that instead. Incidentally, caterers not catering is one of the most annoying things in The Sims 4. There are a lot of things players feel are missing from the game.
Is there hope for a new update for The Sims 4?
While Wednesday turned out to be a disappointment for players, it might not mean all hope is gone. Updates are not usually released on a Wednesday, so players hope that an exciting and substantial update might still arrive on Thursday, one of the usual release days for content.
The Sims 4 also had a staggered release across regions. The North American release on 2 September was followed by two further dates – Australia and Europe on 4 September and the United Kingdom on 5 September.
There might still be celebrations to come, but for many Simmers, it’s been a year of simmering in frustration.
