Update: The trailer for the new Sims 4 Stuff Pack will be revealed on Tuesday, 12 January. Watch it here.
Before we even had a chance to have a good go about speculating, The Sims 4 confirmed that the new pack, the first DLC for the year, will be a Stuff Pack.
Sim Gurus shared a few hints on Twitter on Monday, without directly revealing what sort of new DLC The Sims 4 will be releasing.
It was pretty obvious (we think so anyway) from the hints that it will be something to do with paranormal/ghosts, much like the Happy Haunts Stuff Pack that lost out to Nifty Knitting in the voted-for-by-the-community pack stakes.
We did figure out that the details (ie probably the trailer) will be revealed on 12 January, but now the official Sims 4 account confirmed (unless this is part of some sort of mystery/prank reveal) that the upcoming DLC will be a Stuff Pack.
The Sims 4 confirm new stuff pack as first DLC of 2021
The official Twitter account of The Sims shared the following message on social media on Tuesday: “Let the investigation begin! Tune in January 12th for the first pack reveal of 2021! #TheSims4StuffPack”.
Like many players, we had been hopeful of Happy Haunts potentially being expanded into a Sims 4 Game Pack to allow for more immersive features – like the Grim Reaper freelancer career – to be included. That’s not to say that such a thing couldn’t be added as part of a base game update, of course.
However, judging by the reference to “let the investigation begin”, it seems more likely that a ghost hunter or paranormal investigator will be a key feature of the upcoming pack.
This will be the 18th stuff pack released by The Sims 4. While these have traditionally been smaller add-ons that feature mostly Create-a-Sim and Build/Buy objects, more recent Sims 4 Stuff Packs have added gameplay features.
The Tiny Living Stuff Pack added a new lot trait (and its benefits) while the Nifty Knitting Stuff Pack added a new skill, a new interaction (reminisce) and the Plopsy store, amongst other features. While it is still unlikely that all the features listed for “Happy Haunts” in the community survey will be included, it might offer something slightly more substantial than just…err…stuff.
We’re also not sure if this is the same pack that was ‘leaked’ last year. In 2020, a listing for a new stuff pack was ‘leaked’ on Origin. Some of the responses by the Sim Gurus had us wondering if it could be a romance-themed stuff pack, but maybe we were reading a bit too much into that.
