The first bit of Sims-related speculation for 2021 is in full flow. The Sim Gurus dropped a few obvious hints on Twitter on Monday and we now know that there is a new pack announcement coming soon.
A new pack announcement, or rather further details about what that pack is all about, will be unveiled on 12 January 2021. From the hints shared on Twitter and hints in the Snowy Escape expansion pack, we are pretty sure that this is going to be something to do with the paranormal.
If it is indeed something spooky (and we just have to keep saying this until it is officially confirmed) the pack will almost certainly add some features from the “Happy Haunts” pack which lost out to Nifty Knitting in the most recent community voted pack.
Paranormal careers in previous versions of The Sims
The Sims has been around for over 20 years and to date, every version of the game (except The Sims 4) has had some sort of career focusing on something to do with the paranormal.
Both The Sims and The Sims 2 featured a Paranormal career, featuring some of the gameplay featured listed in the pack survey. Psychic Phone Friend, Conspiracy Theorist, Tarot Card Reader, Hypnotist, Police Psychic, UFO Investigator, Exorcist and Cult Leader were the promotion levels for the Paranormal career in the first two editions of The Sims.
The Sims 3 featured the Fortune Teller career rather than a Paranormal career. The branches here are a bit different with a Mystic and Scam Artist branch. One of the career levels in this career included becoming a “Traveller of Time and Space”. Now, it’s probably long gone already, but remember all those hints about travel in the Future Cube?
The Sims 3 also had a Ghost Hunter career. This included with different kinds of ghosts and collectible spirits. Hrm.
What about the Grim Reaper career in The Sims 4?
One of the most intriguing features of the community pack survey, which featured Happy Haunts as a pack option, was a potential Grim Reaper freelancer career.
That would be pretty cool – and something the game hasn’t done before. But we are going to keep our expectations low on this one. In the initial clues, there wasn’t anything obvious to suggest that this might be added.
And if this is a stuff pack rather than a game pack, that’d be even less likely. This could still be a game pack, of course (and there are good arguments on both sides of the speculation coin), which could increase the likelihood of such a career option.
Or maybe, if you are feeling really optimistic, perhaps the Grim Reaper freelancer career might be added as part of a Sims 4 base game patch ahead of the pack’s release. Hey, we did say if you’re feeling optimistic.
Update note added on 6 January 2021 at 19:05 SAST: It has been confirmed that this will be a Sims 4 Stuff Pack.
