Sims 4 update: Good news for those Sims who want to opt out of fame

If you prefer starting your Sims saves without the burden and demands of fame, there’s good news. The inability to keep that box ticked was a bug.

The Sims 4 is full of all sorts of weird bugs. Sometimes these are funny, sometimes they’re immensely frustrating and sometimes we assume they are because of the mods or custom content we use and we just put up with it. Or is that just us?

A good example of this is how it had become impossible to tick the box to opt Sims out of fame if you owned The Sims 4: Get Famous expansion pack.

When trying to change this under “Game Options” the box would just keep on removing the tick all by itself. It became one of those things which we just accepted as being something we’ll have to live with.

After all, the game’s tagline is Play With Life, is it not? And, in the real world, we have to put up with fame no matter how much we detest it, it’s kinda just… there.

We figured it’s probably got something to do with a mod conflict somewhere. As it turns out, this was a bug in The Sims 4: Get Famous expansion pack itself. Much to our delight, this has now been fixed.

The patch notes released for The Sims 4 January 2021 update (the one released before the Paranormal Stuff Pack’s release) noted: Sims can now be opted out of Fame in the Options Menu once again. Don’t care about the bling or the hi-life, ‘cause Simoleons ain’t mean a thing if ya ain’t Simming right.

We’ll have to wait and see about what happens to fame and whether there is a choice of opting in our out in the afterlife, though. Insert spooky sounds in anticipation of the Paranormal Stuff Pack here.
