The Sims 4 confirmed that a new type of content called “Kits” will be released soon with full details being revealed on 2 March 2021.
New files added to The Sims 4 game code during the recent February 2021 update revealed that three kits are seemingly ready for release. They will be called Country Kitchen, Throwback Fit and Bust the Dust.
Game files revealed descriptions, screenshots and icons for the soon-to-be-launched content – we’ve covered the details of all three of those new Sims 4 Kits over here. But, for today, we’ll focus on the Bust the Dust Kit.
We’ll be honest here, we never knew just how much we wanted vacuums in the game until we saw the screenshots and read the description for this new Sims 4 Kit. Two new aspirations will be added – a seemingly exaggerated version of two existing traits (Neatfreak and Filthy).
The description for these read: Explore two new aspirations! Perfectly Pristine Sims won’t let a single speck of dirt remain, while Fabulously Filthy Sims revel in allowing grime to thrive.
The descriptions for The Sims 4: Bust The Dust Kit continues as follows:
Make your Sim’s chores easier: The Sims ™ 4 Bust the Dust Kit! Dust is piling up and spawning friendly bunnies and dastardly filth fiends in Sims’ homes. Get rid of the muck by cleaning, or settle in for a messy life. Conquer chores with new buffs and rewards for each dust level, vacuums to help fight the good fight, and aspirations related to cleanliness.
Suck It Up: Find full-size and handheld vacuums in Build Mode for your fight against the encroaching dust. Make your Sim’s chores easier—and more fun! Even kids can help out.
Clean Up Your Act: Explore two new aspirations! Perfectly Pristine Sims won’t let a single speck of dirt remain, while Fabulously Filthy Sims revel in allowing grime to thrive.
Avoid Dust-Ups: What starts as a film of dust builds up into piles, and then takes on a life of its own! As time passes, homes go from clean to dusty to filthy if Sims don’t clean up.
Sims 4: Possible image of the dust bunny from upcoming Bust the Dust Kit
The screenshots found in the game files include glimpses of the dust bunnies, but there is also a single file of the filthy fiend or friend. The file in the game of what appears to be the dust bunny is quite small, but we’ve had a go at scaling it up a little bit. Who knew balls of dust could be this cute?
Since the description mentions both “friendly bunnies and dastardly filth fiends”, we’re not sure which one this critter might be – but looking at that cute little face, it’s not like it matters.
How the new Sims 4 dust system will work
The dust system that will come with the pack will work similarly to the Eco Footprint that came with the Eco Lifestyle expansion pack. Sims 4 modder, Turbodriver, posted a screenshot of the code on Twitter.
Some of the interesting things highlighted include the two types of vacuums – as seen in the screenshots – and that dust will affect both objects and the floor.
There are references to dust pile, dust friend, dust bunny and filth fiend (as mentioned in the descriptions). It also notes a certain level of dust per lot and ways to enable and disable the dust system with the dust-related objects spawning only when it is active.
A user on the official Sims forums, elelunicy, also posted a screenshot of how this is likely to look in the Sims 4 game options menu.
More details about the kits will be revealed this week on 2 March.
