Sims 4 announce release date for bunk beds base game update

After nearly seven years, it appears The Sims 4 base game will finally get the highly requested bunk beds. There is also some speculation that there is a Generations style expansion set to follow soon.

Bunk beds will finally come to The Sims 4 in a patch that is set to be released on 23 March 2021, with further details around the update set to be revealed a day before.

There was some confusion about the announcement, which has since been clarified. The official Sims Twitter account sent a Tweet referencing 22 March with a silhouetted image of what appears to be bunk beds, but upon logging into the game, players received a message saying that there is an update coming on 23 March.

The team had already revealed that the highly requested addition to the game would be added with the March patch, but the official date was revealed on Twitter this week.

Since The Sims confirmed that bunk beds would be added in a free base game update for The Sims 4 in March, there has been plenty of speculation about what the game’s next expansion pack might be. One of the leading contenders is a Generations-style expansion.

The Sims 4 already has a Parenthood add on, but the Sim Gurus themselves have said that pack is not considered to be akin to the Generations expansions of previous editions of the franchise.

And in the recently released Sims 4 Kits, there are references aplenty to heritage and generations in the object descriptions for The Sims 4: Country Kitchen Kit.

As usual, The Sims 4 March patch will also include some bug fixes. Some of these have been highlighted in the new “Laundry List”, a short and sweet update from The Sims 4 team that shares some details on which bugs the dev team is working on.

Some of this month’s potential fixes include the Bonehilda puddles after drinking water (which is causing puddles for all Sims and not just as intended with Bonehilda). The recently released Bust the Dust Kit might get a fix of its own, too, with players complaining that the dust system is somewhat out of whack. For the time being, you can disable the dust system to avoid your Sims’ homes getting too filthy too fast.

As with all patches for The Sims 4 base game, remember to back up your mods and custom content ahead of the release of the patch next week. You might also find the Better Exceptions mod by TwistedMexi useful, if you have a lot of CC or mods. This script will scan for any possible conflicts after an update and warn you of any potential disasters before they happen.

Note: A previous version of this article stated that the bunk beds update would be released on 22 March. That has now been updated to correctly reflect that the patch which will bring bunk beds to The Sims 4 is set to be released on 23 March with only details about the update set to be announced on 22 March.
