The Sims team admitted that they missed the mark with a recent update to the ‘Hates Children’ trait. In March, several of The Sims 4 base game traits received an overhaul and earlier this week, a full list of what exactly these changes were was revealed.
An update to one trait in particular, however, was poorly thought out and rightly criticised by players. According to the official description – which has since been changed – “asking a Hates Children Sim to ‘Try For Baby’ has no chance of success unless the Sim is Dazed”.
Players were quick to point out that this why this is a terrible idea, not just in terms of the wording but because of the connotations to lack of consent that comes with Sims being dazed.
The Sims team responded to one such message on Twitter on Saturday saying: “You are absolutely right! We appreciate you all holding us accountable to our values – especially when we miss the mark! Consent isn’t something to play with, so we’ve updated our language & will correct the trait in an upcoming patch.”
On the official blog post, the description for this change was also updated to read: Sims with the Hates Children trait are very unreceptive to being asked to ‘Try for Baby’.
Heading into its seventh year, the fourth edition of the popular simulation franchise announced earlier this week that a new Sims 4 Kit and a new Game Pack will be announced in the coming weeks. There was no elaboration on a specific date, however, but there is plenty of speculation around what the new content might be – with werewolves being one popular theory for the next Sims 4 Game Pack.
