Group D: Nigeria vs Sudan

Nigeria have the opportunity to cement their knockout place at the delayed 2021 Africa Cup of Nations when they meet Sudan on Saturday.

The Super Eagles soared to victory over fellow heavyweights and Group D favourites Egypt in their pool opener on Tuesday in Garoua.

Kelechi Iheanacho’s smart finish after half an hour proved enough to outdo Mohamed Salah and Co, putting the West African giants in pole position to qualify for a Round of 16 place in Cameroon.

They meet a Sudanese side that just about clung on for a point in their opener against Guinea-Bissau.

Keeper Ali Abou Achrine was the hero with his penalty save just eight minutes from full time, as his team-mates gratefully watched the rebound ping away off the crossbar.

The 1970 champions of Africa must now step it up if they are to repeat the feat against a different class of opposition.

Kick at 18:00.

Group D: Guinea-Bissau vs Egypt

Two nations needing to get a move on meet at the Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday, as Egypt and Guinea-Bissau attempt to mount their respective scrambles out of Group D.

It was a disappointing Afcon start for the Pharaohs on Tuesday, as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Nigeria.

Mohamed Salah and Co were left scratching their heads after Kelechi Iheanacho’s first half strike proved the only goal in Garoua.

It threatens to extend the pain after the Egyptians were knocked out of their home tournament by South Africa two years ago, knocking the stuffing out of an expectant full house in Cairo.

But their next assignment pits them against a nation that has now failed to score in five Afcon fixtures.

Pele failed to live up to the name on Tuesday as he saw his 82nd minute penalty saved by Sudan stopper Ali Abou Achrine, leaving his side with an underwhelming point from their easiest pool match.

Kick off at 21:00.
