Africa Cup of Nations knockout qualification hangs in the balance on Tuesday, as Groups C and D come to a head in Cote d’Ivoire.

Reigning champions Senegal are safely through ahead of their clash with Guinea, while rivals Cameroon likely need nothing less than a win over Gambia in Group C.

Group D is tantalizingly poised with Algeria at serious risk of missing out again as they play Mauritania, with Angola meeting Burkina Faso knowing victory for either nation will see them top the pool.

Group C: Gambia vs Cameroon – 19.00

It’s all or nothing for Cameroon when they play Gambia in the final round of Group C fixtures at the delayed 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire on Tuesday.

The five-time champions most likely need all three points to qualify for the Round of 16.

That’s thanks to collecting just a single point from their opening two matches against Guinea and Senegal.

Their last outing against the reigning Afcon champions was a particular blow, as they fell to a 3-1 loss to put them up against it here.

The Scorpions are pointless following defeats to both the Lions of Teranga and the Guineans.

It means only a win will do against the five-time African champions if they are to stand any chance of upsetting the odds and beating their illustrious opponents to a best third-placed finisher spot.

Group C: Guinea vs Senegal – 19.00

Senegal are in perfect shape as they go into their final Group C fixture at the Africa Cup of Nations against Guinea in Cote d’Ivoire on Tuesday.

Sadio Mane and Co have launched the ideal defence of their 2021 Afcon crown, pocketing a maximum points haul so far.

A regulation opening success against minnows Gambia was followed up by an impressive 3-1 win over Cameroon, leaving their expected rivals struggling to make it out of the pool phase.

Indeed if Guinea and snatch a point or more from the Lions of Teranga, it’ll guarantee them at least a runners-up finish and a smooth passage to the Round of 16 as the competition hots up.

And don’t rule that out, with the Senegalese already home and hosed, with an eye on the sharp end of the tournament.

Group D: Angola vs Burkina Faso – 22.00

A decisive Group D contest at the Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday sees Angola and Burkina Faso battle it out for top spot in Cote d’Ivoire.

The pair come into the shootout level on four points in a finely poised pool that could still see plenty of late drama.

It could have been so much better for the Burkinabe, whose opening win over Mauritania looked like being doubled to a six-point haul against struggling Algeria last week.

But they succumbed to a 95th-minute equalizer that kept them from owning first place outright, while also leaving the qualification door ajar for their north African opponents.

Angola will be far the happier with their work so far, drawing with the Algerians in the opening round before Gelson Dala netted twice to secure a 3-2 success over Mauritania.

It means progression is all but assured already, but with the bigger prize of top spot also firmly in the offing.

Group D: Mauritania vs Algeria – 22.00

Algeria have the chance to complete an eye-catching comeback in Group D at the Africa Cup of Nations, as they aim to see off Mauritania and qualify for the Round of 16 on Tuesday.

Baghdad Bounedjah breathed life into their campaign with a 95th-minute leveller against Burkina Faso on Saturday – his second goal of the game and third of the tournament.

It’s a one-man mission that could save his nation from the humiliation of successive group stage exits.

But Mauritania remain tricky customers despite losing two from two so far in Cote d’Ivoire.

Only a last-gasp penalty denied them a point against the Burkinabe, while they pushed Angola all the way in the 3-2 defeat that followed in the second round of action.
