The second round of pool fixtures come to a climax at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday, as the competing nations jostle for a shot at knockout progression in Morocco.

Algeria and Burkina Faso both look to extend their winning starts to the competition in Group E, where Equatorial Guinea and Sudan attempt to get up and running at the second attempt.

Group F sees a massive game between Cote d’Ivoire and Cameroon, where at least one 100% record will go up in smoke, with Gabon and Mozambique also in action.

Group E: Equatorial Guinea vs Sudan – 17.00

Points on the board are a necessity for Equatorial Guinea and Sudan, as they meet at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Casablanca on Sunday.

Both were defeated in their opening matches in Morocco.

It was particularly heartbreaking for the National Thunder, who were leading deep into injury time against Burkina Faso thanks to an 85th-minute Marvin Anieboh header.

But it all went wrong when they conceded in the 95th and 98th minutes, having battled on with ten men for so long after Basilio Ndong’s sending off early in the second half.

The Sudanese were also reduced to ten men when Salah Adil picked up his second yellow card five minutes before half time.

They were already a goal down by that point thanks to Riyad Mahrez’s early opening goal for Algeria.

Another pair followed after the break to condemn the Falcons of Jediane to a 3-0 loss in Rabat.

Group E: Algeria vs Burkina Faso – 19.30

Something will have to give when Algeria meet Burkina Faso at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Rabat on Sunday.

The pair were both winners in the opening round of fixtures at the Morocco tournament, leaving them fighting it out for pole position at the top of Group E.

Riyad Mahrez scored twice and Ibrahim Maza added a late third for the Fennec Foxes, who put in a confident performance to dispence with the challenge of minnows Sudan.

The Stallions took a different route entirely to putting three points on the board.

They trailed deep into stoppage time against Equatorial Guinea, only to be rescued against their ten-man opponents by goals from Georgi Minoungou and Edmond Tapsoba in the 95th and 98th minute respectively.

It was a fightback that could prove vital in their bid to progress beyond the pool phase at a fourth successive Afcon appearance.

Group F: Gabon vs Mozambique – 14.30

It’s crunch time for Gabon and Mozambique at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday, as the pointless pair go up against each other in Group F in Agadir.

Both were competitive in their opening pool matches, only to come out without reward thanks to a pair of 1-0 losses.

Star man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made a first half appearance off the bench in Gabon’s rival clash against neighbours Cameroon, but the veteran couldn’t spark a turnaround after they had fallen behind in the sixth minute.

Mozambique also went down by the only goal at the hands of Cote d’Ivoire, with keeper Ernan pulling off a strong of saves to keep them in the contest.

Group F: Cote d’Ivoire vs Cameroon – 22.00

An Africa Cup of Nations classic sees reigning champions Cote d’Ivoire and Cameroon go head-to-head in Marrakech on Sunday.

The pair collide with top spot in Group F up for grabs, having both come up with all three points in their tournament openers on Wednesday.

Amad Diallo scored the only goal for the Elephants as they edged past Mozambique to kickstart their title defence.

The Manchester United man netted a smooth finish in the 49th minute, ensuring that those in orange weren’t punished for passing up a host of chances against their lowly opponents.

Karl Etta Eyong did any nerves the world of good for the Indomitable Lions with his sixth-minute strike against neighbours Gabon.

It was a tense affair between the rival nations, as the Cameroonians got up and running under the charge of freshly-appointed coach David Pagou.
