Round of 16: Egypt vs Benin – 18.00
Egypt continue their quest for an eighth title when they meet Benin in the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday.
The pair meet in Agadir with the Pharaohs unbeaten while the Cheetahs squeaked through as one of the best third-placed finishers as 24 nations were whittled down to 16.
English Premier League superstars Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush were among those left on the bench by coach Hossam Hassan for their final Group B match against Angola, with top spot already secured.
It led to a goalless draw that will be instantly forgotten by all but the most ardent of fans.
There was plenty to remember about their 1-0 win over South Africa in the second round of action, though, with the Egyptians coming out on the right side of a couple of dubious decisions from the match officials – Salah netting what proved to be the winning penalty.
Salah was needed for an injury time winner to pip Zimbabwe, too, after Marmoush had pulled his side level midway through the second half.
Benin were stuffed 3-0 by Senegal in their final Group D match.
It was their second defeat after also going down by the only goal of the game to DR Congo in their Afcon opener in Medina.
But they were able to make history in between as Yohan Roche scored to earn their first ever Cup of Nations victory at the expense of Botswana, with it also proving just enough to take them through to the next phase.
Round of 16: Nigeria vs Mozambique – 21.00
Nigeria face the challenge of Mozambique in the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco on Monday.
The Super Eagles are not short of goals, having rattled in eight so far, but failed to keep a clean sheet despite earning one of only two maximum points hauls from the first phase alongside Algeria.
They kept the entertainment coming in Group C, with even their much-changed team seeing off ten-man Uganda 3-1 thanks to a goal from Paul Onuachu and a quickfire double courtesy of Raphael Onyedika.
Tunisia had threatened a damaging comeback in their previous match, scoring twice in the latter stages to create a tense finale in Fes.
But earlier goals from Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman were just enough to ensure a 3-2 victory.
Lookman also popped up with the winner in their opening game, two minutes after they had been pegged back by Tanzania after Semi Ajayi’s opening goal.
Mozambique defied the odds to make it out of Group F.
Their thrilling 3-2 win over Gabon did the business – and helped to cause uproar for their vanquished opponents back home, including the suspension of legendary forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang by his own government.
Goals from Faizal Bangal, Geny Catamo and Diogo Calila were enough to secure the crucial three points.
It meant defeats by the odd goal to heavyweight pair Cote d’Ivoire and Cameroon proved no barrier to the Mambas reaching the knockouts for the first time, in their sixth tournament appearance.
