Round of 16: Morocco vs Tanzania – 18.00

It’s time for the host nation to continue their quest for glory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday, as Morocco meet Tanzania in the Round of 16.

The Atlas Lions are hunting for just their second Afcon title – and their first since 1976 – with the added boost of home advantage.

That bonus has been clearly apparent at their shiny new Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium base, which has so far produced an enviable atmosphere in favour of the 2022 Fifa World Cup semi-finalists.

Qualification out of Group A was straightforward enough, with a 3-0 victory over Zambia in the final pool game ensuring top spot.

Ayoub El Kaabi scored twice either side of Brahim Diaz notching his third Afcon goal in as many matches, taking his side to a seven-point haul.

A draw with Mali was a touch frustrating, with Diaz scoring from the penalty spot just before half time.

But they already had three points banked from their opening night action against Comoros, as Diaz and El Kaabi once again combined on the scoresheet to get their tournament off to the perfect start.

Tanzania somehow made it through despite extending their run of never having won a match at the Cup of Nations.

The Taifa Stars have now played 12 games in the competition without joy and scraped through ahead of Angola here in the third place rankings, despite collecting just two points.

Feisal Salum made himself a hero back home as he equalised in the final group game with Tunisia, with the score draw taking them through on goals scored alone.

That precious point followed the feisty draw with neighbours Uganda, where Uche Ikpeazu pulled his side level in the 80th minute in rain-sodden Rabat.

It meant their expected opening loss to Nigeria didn’t cost them, with the mission now to pull off an almighty shock against the favourites in their own back yard.

Round of 16: South Africa vs Cameroon – 21.00

An absorbing Round of 16 match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco sees former champions collide when South Africa play Cameroon in Rabat.

The pair meet at the Agdal Medina Stadium with neither having topped their pool – both progressing as runners-up.

South Africa were fancied as dark horses to win the competition coming into the event, but they have yet to click fully into gear in Morocco.

It took an Oswin Appollis penalty to seal a late 3-2 win over Zimbabwe in their final pool assignment, in which they had twice been pegged back after taking the lead against their lively neighbours through Tshepang Moremi and then Lyle Foster.

Controversy reigned over Bafana Bafana’s second outing against heavyweights Egypt.

Dubious decision-making from the match officials and VAR combined to leave a bitter taste, as Mohamed Salah netted a penalty just before half time that ultimately decided the contest.

Bafana had earlier edged past Angola in their tournament opener, with Appollis and Foster again on target in their 2-1 victory.

It ultimately led to the second-placed finish for the 1996 champions that leaves veteran coach Hugo Broos facing a reunion with the nation he guided to their most recent Afcon title in 2017.

Cameroon were handed a tricky draw but arguably came through Group F better than expected.

A final round 2-1 win over battling Mozambique sealed the deal, as an own goal and a stunning Christian Kofane strike proved just enough.

Their draw with reigning champions Cote d’Ivoire again relied on an own goal but no matter for the five-time kings of the continent, who saw off Gabon by the only goal thanks to Karl Etta Eyong’s early strike.
