Semi-final: Senegal vs Egypt – 19.00

It’s semi-finals day at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco on Wednesday – and what a way to kick off as Senegal meet Egypt in Tangier for a place in the final.

The contest pits 2021 champions Senegal against Egypt’s seven-time Afcon winners.

But the Pharaohs haven’t tasted continental glory since 2010, meaning the legendary Mohamed Salah has a vital piece of silverware missing from his cabinet.

Salah was yet again on hand to help his side negotiate a devilish quarter-final against reigning champions Cote d’Ivoire.

The Liverpool forward scored the third in Agadir on Saturday, which proved to be the decisive goal as they came through against the Elephants with a 3-2 win.

Fellow English Premier League star Omar Marmoush had opened the scoring in the fourth minute, before Rami Rabia struck just after half an hour as the Egyptians always kept their noses in front.

Senegal were also forced to work hard before coming through their rival clash against Mali with a 1-0 victory.

Iliman Ndiaye netted from close range on 27 minutes for what proved to be the only goal of the game in Tangier, with Yves Bissouma’s red card in first half stoppage time helping to quash any thoughts of a Malian comeback.

The Indomitable Lions came through their Round of 16 tie 3-1 despite having fallen behind to shock qualifiers Sudan.

They had earlier polished off Group D with a 3-0 success against Benin.

It saw them pip DR Congo to top spot after the pair drew 1-1 in the second round of matches, with Botswana no match in a 3-0 opening triumph for Sadio Mane and Co.

The Pharaohs were taken all the way into extra time by Benin in their Round of 16 tie.

Marwan Attia’s goal in the 69th minute looked to have done the trick until the underdogs pulled level with seven minutes left to play in Agadir.

Yasser Ibrahim netted halfway through the first period of the added 30 minutes, before that man Salah made sure with a beautiful curling strike deep into stoppage time.

They had earlier topped Group B with room to spare, allowing a much-changed line up to draw 0-0 in an inconsequential final outing against Angola.

South Africa were vanquished in the second pool match to get them there – and not without plenty of controversy along the way – as Salah scored a match-winning penalty just before half time.

The Liverpool forward came to the rescue in their opening game, too, popping up in injury time to edge out Zimbabwe.

Semi-final: Nigeria vs Morocco – 22.00

A monster clash completes the semi-final line up at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday night, as host nation Morocco go up against Nigeria in Rabat.

It’ll be a raucous atmosphere that greets the heavyweight pair at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

The Atlas Lions have been turning the venue into a fortress throughout the tournament, most recently overpowering Cameroon to win their quarter-final contest 2-0.

Afcon goal machine Brahim Diaz broke the deadlock in the 26th minute, before Ismael Saibari doubled the advantage to see them safely through to the last four.

The Super Eagles were also in confident mood, sweeping past Algeria by the same scoreline.

Victor Osimhen continued his fine form by scoring the opening goal shortly after half time, with Akor Adams adding the second ten minutes later to see them safely through.

It was a cakewalk for the West African nation in the Round of 16, as they outmuscled minnows Mozambique 4-0.

Group C was theirs after squeezing past Tanzania, holding off a Tunisia fightback for a 3-2 win the second round of matches and coming through strongly to beat Uganda 3-1 to make it nine points out of nine.

Morocco picked off Tanzania in their first knockout match, keeping the 2022 Fifa World Cup semi-finalists on track for continental glory.

Victory over Mozambique put the cap on their safe passage from Group F alongside reigning champions Cote d’Ivoire.

They had earlier drawn 1-1 with the Elephants in what could have been a pivotal match, after opening up with a slender win over Gabon.

Diaz scored the first goal of the tournament for Morocco en route to a 2-0 stroll over Comoros, with Ayoub El Kaabi’s overhead kick doubling the advantage.

They could only draw 1-1 with Mali, but put three past Zambia as they clicked into gear on home turf, boosted by the return from injury of captain Achraf Hakimi.
