It’s a south coast derby in the English FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday, as Premier League Southampton face Championship side Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

The hosts are relishing a crack on the big stage following their EPL relegation last season, while the visitors are grateful for a break from their flagging league campaign.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side came good against Premier League opposition in the last two rounds, seeing off Wolves at Molineux in round five having edged out Arsenal at St Mary’s Stadium at the fourth round stage.

The Saints had earlier eased past lower league Shrewsbury 2-0, in a fixture messed about by Covid-19 protocols.

Bournemouth waltzed past Oldham as they made their third round entrance, before pipping League Two club Crawley at home in round four.

The Cherries stepped up a gear in the last 16, mind you, heading to Burnley and recording a 2-0 victory at Turf Moor to reach the quarters.

Southampton have a host of injuries to contend with as the season reaches the sharp end.

Danny Ings, Theo Walcott and Michael Obafemi are all missing from the visiting attack, which will also be without Takumi Minamino, thanks to the on-loan striker’s involvement earlier in the FA Cup for parent club Liverpool.

Hasenhuttl will also be without Oriol Romeu and Will Smallbone for the short trip to Dorset.

Bournemouth are also missing some big names with livewire David Brooks chief among them.

Midfielder Lewis Cook is also injured, while veteran striker Shane Long is ineligible to face his parent club.

Junior Stanislas is also a doubt for former England defender Jonathan Woodgate, who is in charge at the Vitality Stadium until the end of the season.
