So, there’s a burglar NPC reference in The Sims 4 tuning descriptions

Like a thief in the night and code strings in the tuning descriptions… will The Sims 4 finally see burglars make a comeback?

The Sims 4 released a short and sweet update for April, focussing mainly on bug fixes and adding two additional hairstyles to the base game.

During the Inside Maxis live stream, it was revealed that six new hair colour swatches, as well as a revamped afro hair and more eye pre-sets, will be coming with the May patch.

And if you?re waiting for news on new DLC, you are going to have to wait a little while longer ? how much longer we do not know for sure. What we do know is that there will be an announcement for a new Sims 4 Kit and a new Sims 4 Game Pack in the next ?couple of weeks?.

But there is more. Oh yes. There is always more. Before we proceed, though, let’s be clear that that this is very much speculation at this point – sometimes rogue strings of code get leftover and never mean anything. Additionally, there was a reference to this in the tuning descriptions before – and nothing came of it. So make of that what you will. Yeah, we know, it’s been a bit of a slow Sims news….erm…month.

Sims 4: Burglar NPC finally returning?

While The Sims 4 patch notes offer an overview of what was fixed and sometimes even add a few clues about what?s coming, it?s the Tuning Descriptions that can be the most interesting. It was the Tuning Descriptions that revealed the Sims 4 Kits before The Sims even officially confirmed them.

While doing a bit of digging through the latest update, we found an interesting reference (which has been seen a few times before – just to stress the point).

The reference is found in the _add_if_not_in_tracker – and it simply reads: Set this to false for the case of NPC behaviour commodities like Being a Maid or Being a Burglar.

We know that The Sims 4 team have previously said that they are “always thinking” about burglars, so perhaps they were just thinking about them again with this snippet. There have been several references to burglars in The Sims 4 before too – so we are not going to get too carried away here.

Even the Barrel Cactus objection description from the base game references burglars, it reads: Barrel cactus can actually grow quite tall and harbour dangerous pathogens on their needles. A brilliant and lovely way to keep burglars away!

There was another object description reference to the fiendish foes when The Sims 4 Island Living was released, with one window description read: The Snapper Security Window is the latest in island security. It works kinda like a rat trap. Crooks are attracted to an open window like a rat to a dumpster, but when they try climb in ? SNAP! The shutter drops down on the perp like the long arm of the law ? trapping them instantly, and securely. 5-0 is immediately alerted so clean up is a snap too. Just 3 minutes after the trap is sprung, the cops are at the window to drag that desperado off to the slammer. Remember when the light is green the trap is clean!

Yeah, it’s probably nothing. No, seriously, it’s almost certainly nothing. We mean, there are references to horses and newspaper delivery people in the tuning descriptions too and you know how that story goes.

But, you know, we all have to find a hobby to keep busy while waiting for the official announcements.
