English FA Cup quarter-final predictions, fixtures and results: 16 – 17 March 2024

Wembley Stadium awaits the four winning sides of this weekend’s English FA Cup quarter-finals, with a brace of fixtures on each of Saturday and Sunday.

The draw has served up a quartet of games with a whole heap of interest – and they don’t come any bigger than Manchester United vs Liverpool on Sunday.

It’s a renewal of hostilities for the north west pair, who have shared some high-octane Cup clashes over the years.

This time Old Trafford is the venue as the visiting Reds continue their quest for an incredible quadruple trophy haul to see off legendary boss Jurgen Klopp in the summer.

They made it through Round Five with ease at the expense of Championship Southampton, while the Red Devils edged out Nottingham Forest.

Sunday’s other match is a repeat of the 2021 FA Cup final, as Chelsea go up against second tier leaders Leicester at Stamford Bridge.

The Foxes won their maiden title in front of a Covid-restricted Wembley crowd that day.

And, having since tumbled out of the Premier League, they have the chance to continue their unlikely pursuit of a league and Cup double against Mauricio Pochettino’s inconsistent Blues.

The hosts squeaked past Leicester’s fellow promotion-chasers Leeds at the last hurdle, while their dangerous visitors snared extra time glory against EPL Bournemouth on the south coast.

Reigning FA Cup champions Manchester City are eyeing up a ninth crown, having done over arch-rivals Manchester United under the famous arch last June.

Pep Guardiola’s side host Newcastle on Sunday, with the away side improbably winning the most recent of their six titles all the way back in 1955.

They had to earn their trip to the Etihad Stadium the hard way, too, denying Championship Blackburn a place in the last eight thanks only to a penalty shootout success at Ewood Park.

No such strife for City, for whom Erling Haaland scored five in a 6-2 Kenilworth Road thrashing of Luton.

And there’s another derby to kick off the FA Cup weekend on Saturday lunchtime, as West Midlands pair Wolves and Coventry face off for a spot in the semis.

The Sky Blues have taken on the mantle of lowest-ranked team left in the competition, having dumped out this season’s fairytale club Maidstone in Round Five.

Now they cross the Black Country to meet their familiar foes, who have already dispatched neighbours West Brom at the Fourth Round stage, before edging out Brighton by the only goal at Molineux last time out.
