English Premier League predictions, fixtures and results: 14 – 15 May 2024

A hat-trick of midweek fixtures in the English Premier League are guaranteed to tee up a dramatic final day of the season this coming Sunday.

The race for the EPL title will go all the way to the wire, no matter the score as contenders Manchester City go to Tottenham on Tuesday night.

Pep Guardiola’s side have seen their perfect record matched all the way by league leaders Arsenal during the run-in.

And now the reigning champions know that only a win will do to ensure they kick off on Sunday at the top of the standings.

A draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, meanwhile, would throw up the tantalizing prospect of City and the Gunners going into the grand finale separated by what would be an advantage of three on goal difference for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Throw in the prospect of a Spurs win handing the Premier League crown on a plate to their arch-rivals and we have all the makings of a nerve-shredding night in the capital.

In any case, coach Ange Postecoglou knows his side need all three points to keep the window to Uefa Champions League qualification ajar, as Aston Villa stutter in fourth place at the very last.

The two clubs immediately beneath them are both on the road on Wednesday night.

Newcastle and resurgent Chelsea can both mathematically leapfrog Spurs into fifth should they slip up twice, although it’s a tall order for either of the pair – both of whom have gone through the ringer at times this campaign.

The Toon Army will flood dilapidated Old Trafford for their clash with Manchester United, in turn seeking to kill off any lingering hopes their hosts have of finishing higher than eighth.

Erik ten Hag’s men played their part in the title race by losing to Arsenal at the weekend to keep the Gunners top, before the infamous north west rain formed a torrent through the stadium roof in a perfectly apt metaphor for the present state of the club.

It meant back-to-back defeats yet again for the Dutch coach, who looks to be clinging on to his paddle up the Old Trafford creek.

Eddie Howe’s side, meanwhile, make the trip off the back of a heartening sequence of three without defeat as they aim to seal the deal on qualification for next season’s Uefa Europa League.

Chelsea would have bitten your hand off at the turn of the year to be in the same position as the Tynesiders.

But so they are, as boss Mauricio Pochettino finally looks to be cobbling something cohesive together from over £1billion in transfer spending under the stewardship of owner Todd Boehly.

Three straight victories has put the Blues firmly in contention at just the right time – and few would bet against them as they go to Brighton.

The gathering gloom has shifted from west London to the Amex Stadium in recent weeks, with the Seagulls taking something of a nosedive since the new year.

That it coincided with growing speculation over the future of coach Roberto de Zerbi has hardly helped with collective morale on the south coast.

And we’re left with the very real prospect that the one-time continental contenders could slip into the bottom half come the weekend’s final reckoning.
