English Premier League predictions, fixtures and results: 2 – 4 April 2024

It’s another thrilling English Premier League fixture programme this midweek, with a full set of games between Tuesday and Thursday.

Leaders Liverpool must wait until Thursday to take their next step towards a potential dream ending to coach Jurgen Klopp’s Merseyside tenure.

But they’ll back themselves to do just that, as rock bottom Sheffield United visit Anfield with just three wins to their name all season.

They share the limelight with the intense clash between Chelsea and Manchester United.

Both have flattered to deceive for large spells this campaign, with the Red Devils needing thee points to prevent a top five finish disappearing over the horizon, while victory for Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues would do little more than nudge them back into the top half.

The two other leading contenders for the EPL title both take to the field on Wednesday night.

And they do so needing to crank up through the gears again to keep Liverpool in check, with Manchester City and Arsenal having played out a cagey goalless draw on Easter Saturday.

Life doesn’t get much easier for Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions, as they host fourth-placed Aston Villa.

Unai Emery’s side go to the Etihad Stadium boosted by the knowledge they will close the gap between themselves and their hosts to two points if they can pull off a result in the north west.

The Gunners, meanwhile, will have to deal with the game challenge of Luton.

Three points will take them top for at least 24 hours but will have to be on their mettle, with the Hatters locked in combat to extend their Premier League stay to a second season.

Wednesday’s third clash also takes place in the capital, as Brentford attempt to end their long winless run at home to Brighton.

With rumours swirling around a possible switch for Seagulls coach Roberto de Zerbi to replace Klopp at Liverpool, every remaining game has the feel of an audition for the Italian, whose side are in patchy form.

The midweek action kicks off on Tuesday night, with the London derby between West Ham and Tottenham topping a five-match bill.

David Moyes has watched on with growing frustration as his Hammers have gone three without a win, cooling any notions of another successful bid for European qualification.

Spurs had to come from behind to see off Luton at the weekend, but have won three of their last four and look a good bet for at least a fifth-placed finish at the end of Ange Postecoglou’s first campaign at the helm.

Everton have lost three on the spin and are deep in relegation trouble as they head north to play Newcastle.

The Toon Army came from 1-3 down to beat West Ham 4-3 over Easter and will relish another opportunity to take the roof off at St James’ Park, while Sean Dyche’s men simply need points on the board as soon as possible.

It’s all hands on deck elsewhere in the relegation scrap, too.

Burnley have gone three unbeaten as they attempt to rise from the dead under boss Vincent Kompany.

They have home ground advantage at Turf Moor on Tuesday night, with Wolves the visitors to the Premier League’s north west outpost.

Nottingham Forest are in peril after joining Everton in copping a points deduction for financial fair play misdemeanors, with Fulham’s visit to the City Ground giving them a real chance to put distance between themselves and the dotted line.

Bournemouth and Crystal Palace look down on the rest from the sunlit uplands of midtable – just about, in the latter’s case.

They have a south coast date at the Vitality Stadium, as they both look to set the platform for a push up the EPL standings next season.
