English Premier League predictions, fixtures and results: 21 – 24 December 2023

It’s a festive frenzy in the English Premier League this week, with a four-day stretch of fixtures taking us all the way up to Christmas Eve.

Chelsea and Wolves have the dubious honour of playing the sole EPL match on Sunday 24 December.

The Blues are itching to put a run of form together under coach Mauricio Pochettino, but go to a fellow midtable side that would join them on 22 points if they can seal a home win at Molineux.

Six Saturday games all build towards the clash between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield.

First and second in the Premier League table at the end of last weekend’s action, the pair have it all to play for in their Merseyside meeting, not least with reigning champions Manchester City away on Fifa Club World Cup duty.

Surprise package Aston Villa, meanwhile, can give their fans the ultimate early Christmas present on Friday night.

Victory at home to bottom club Sheffield United will put Villans instead of an angel at the top of the EPL tree, for the best part of 24 hours at least.

Elsewhere on Saturday there’s a trip for Manchester United to play fellow European contenders West Ham at the London Stadium.

One win in four in the league, not to mention a limp exit from the Uefa Champions League, leaves boss Erik ten Hag increasingly Grinch-like, with the Hammers hot on their heels in the push for the top six.

A fascinating contest across the capital pits Tottenham against red-hot Everton.

Sean Dyche has inspired his Toffees to four straight victories in pulling away from the relegation zone, while Spurs have won back-to-back games to end their first wobble under coach Ange Postecoglou.

Newcastle also returned to winning ways last time out, with an awkward visit to Luton their next assignment.

Eddie Howe’s injury-hit side must keep the points coming to avoid losing touch with the top five above them.

The Hatters, however, will do well to return their thoughts to football, following the cardiac arrest suffered on the pitch by captain Tom Lockyer at the weekend, as he continues his recovery in hospital.

Burnley complete the trio of promoted clubs in an increasingly desperate effort to stay in touch with those clear of relegation danger above them.

Vincent Kompany’s Clarets face a tricky trip to Craven Cottage to play unpredictable Fulham.

There’s a chance someone’s Christmas could be ruined in the East Midlands, when Nottingham Forest host in-form Bournemouth.

The Cherries are in fantastic form, which will be of no comfort to under-fire home boss Steve Cooper, who is hoping it won’t just be Santa he receives the sack from this week.

And there will be precious little goodwill to all men in south London as the Premier League programme kicks off on Thursday night.

Crystal Palace and Brighton renew their derby hostilities at Selhurst Park, with Roy Hodgson’s Eagles boosted by their late comeback at Manchester City last weekend.
