There are just three match weeks left in the English Premier League before an unprecedented mid-season break for the Fifa World Cup in Qatar, with teams up and down the EPL table scrambling for places before the pause.

It’s Arsenal who lead the pack into the end of October, despite slipping to a draw last Sunday.

Mikel Arteta’s men host Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, with the visitors one of a trio locked on nine points at the foot of the Premier League pile after keeping faith with boss Steve Cooper following hefty summer investment at the City Ground.

It’s one of two Sunday fixtures featuring a big gun, as Manchester United host West Ham a little later in the afternoon.

Ex-United chief David Moyes returns to Old Trafford with his Hammers steadily picking up momentum following a sticky start, while the Red Devils are unbeaten in four games and eyeing a top four berth under Erik ten Hag.

A packed Saturday fixture schedule builds towards a trans-Pennine tussle between Liverpool and Leeds at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side start the weekend eighth in the table and smarting from the shock of defeat at rock bottom Forest last Saturday, while it’s much grimmer by far for Elland Road boss Jesse Marsch, whose side’s tumble into the relegation zone has seen the pressure crank up on the American.

Reigning champions Manchester City bookend the day as they head to Leicester for the Saturday lunchtime kick off.

Pep Guardiola’s all-stars would hit the top of the EPL standings with victory at the King Power Stadium – a feat not seeming as simple as it might have done with the Foxes winning back-to-back games and three of their last five to pull away from the drop zone.

Another top flight reunion sees Graham Potter take Chelsea to the south coast to tackle Brighton.

The popular English coach may be a little sheepish with his old club not having won since his departure, while his Blues could rise as high as third with victory at the Amex Stadium.

That depends partly on the fortunes of London rivals Tottenham, who hold on to third spot coming into the round despite losing their last two.

Antonio Conte’s side go to Bournemouth knowing only a win will really do if they are at all serious about mounting a title challenge.

Sandwiched between the capital city pair are Newcastle, who cracked the top four thanks to victory last Sunday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Eddie Howe’s charges now face a St James’ Park date with Aston Villa, who are out to impress incoming boss Unai Emery ahead of the Spaniard’s arrival from Villarreal a year after he opted against making the switch to Tyneside.

Fulham and Everton meet for an intriguing Craven Cottage contest, meanwhile, with the hosts flying high on their EPL return, while Frank Lampard struggles to unwrap his Toffees’ best form.

Crystal Palace host Southampton the other side of the river Thames, with the bottom half duo itching to look up the table rather than over their shoulder going into the break until Boxing Day for the global showpiece.

And there’s a chance for immediate redemption for Brentford and Wolves, as the pair meet in west London having both been bashed 4-0 last time out.
