Euro 2024 predictions, fixtures, group standings, results: Friday 14 June
A massive summer of football kicks off on Friday night in Munich, as host nation Germany meet Scotland in the opening fixture of the 2024 European Championships.
It signals the start of a month-long battle to be crowned kings of the continent.
And it’s a return to normality with all games held in a single country, following the delayed, Covid-19-hit Euro 2020 that saw winners Italy see off England in a Wembley Stadium final following matches all around Europe.

Group A: Germany vs Scotland – 21.00
The pressure is all on Germany as they kick off their home European Championship campaign against Scotland in Munich on Friday.
All eyes are on the Allianz Arena as the host nation look to emerge from a decade that has seen them slip far below their usual ominous standards, since lifting the Fifa World Cup for a fourth time in Brazil back in 2014.
Manuel Neuer, Toni Kroos and Thomas Muller are veteran survivors from that squad, having ridden out some tough times for der Mannschaft.
And now it’s a chance to cap off their stellar international careers on the highest note on home turf, starting under the Friday night lights in Bavaria.
It’s also an opportunity to put the early heat on Group A rivals Hungary and Switzerland, who begin their respective campaigns in Cologne on Saturday.
The Germans were eased out at the Round of 16 stage by old enemies England three years ago, at the same – albeit rebuilt – Wembley, where they had previously come through a dramatic Euro ’96 semi-final against the Three Lions before going on to lift the trophy.
And with no qualifying campaign to deal with as hosts, there’s a sense of new beginnings in the air for a squad under the charge of bright young coach Julian Nagelsmann.
The contest has the sense of a swing to nothing for Scotland.
They returned to major tournament football for Euro 2020 for the first time since appearing at the 1998 Fifa World Cup in France, but stuttered on the big stage, despite home advantage at Glasgow’s Hampden Park, tumbling out winless at the first hurdle.
But there’s recent precedent of the Tartan Army sticking one on a European big gun.
Coach Steve Clarke’s men stunned Spain with a 2-0 victory in qualifying, on their way to a comfortable, second-placed finish behind the heavyweights in Group A.
And now they look to the likes of English Premier League stars Andy Robertson and John McGinn to lead them a little further in their latest European adventure.
Plenty more Euro 2024 action follows throughout the weekend, with the Hungarians and Swiss completing the first round of Group A action on Saturday afternoon, before Spain play Croatia and holders Italy meet Croatia in a hotly-contested Group B.
Beaten finalists in 2021 England then make their entrance against Serbia on Sunday.
That’s after Slovenia play Denmark in the other half of Group B, while Poland and the Netherlands kick off Group C earlier in the day.
