Group C: Poland vs Saudi Arabia – 15.00

Fifa World Cup Group C resumes on Saturday with an unexpectedly critical game between Poland and Saudi Arabia in Qatar.

The pool was blown wide open in the first round of fixtures, leaving it all to play for between these two.

Lionel Messi’s early penalty proved in vain for massive favourites Argentina, as goals from Saleh Al Shehri and Salem Al Dawsari created one of the competition’s all-time great upsets in favour of the Saudis.

The Poles also secured a point against Mexico in far less dramatic circumstances, although Robert Lewandowski was left to rue a penalty miss that would have put his team in, if you will, Pole position.

Group C: Argentina vs Mexico – 21.00

Possibly the biggest group match of the 2022 Fifa World Cup pits Argentina against Mexico in Qatar on Saturday.

It was shaping up to be dramatic enough anyway, but has taken on even greater significance with the two Group C favourites mustering just a point between them from their opening encounters.

Lionel Messi and Co were left shattered by a stirring Saudi Arabia comeback, leaving them with minimal room for error in the desert heat.

And the Mexicans have work to do, too, with the backing of the most raucous fans in the tournament so far not enough to help them pinch a winner against Poland in their opener.

Group D: Tunisia vs Australia – 12.00

Group D kicks off the first Saturday of the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar, as underdogs Tunisia and Australia go head to head.

It’s the North African nation with the advantage coming into this one, as the unfancied pair attempt to squeak progression to the knockouts at the expense of big shots France and Denmark.

The Carthage Eagles clung on for a point against the Danes, even surviving an injury time VAR check for a possible penalty against them.

And the Aussies dared to dream against the reigning champions when Craig Goodwin put them ahead, only for the Socceroos to subside to a 4-1 loss.

Group D: France vs Denmark – 18.00

Qualification for the Round of 16 is the prize for reigning Fifa World Cup champions France, if they can find a way past European rivals Denmark on Saturday evening in Qatar.

Les Bleus survived an early scare to see off plucky Australia in their pool curtain-raiser.

Olivier Giroud’s double put him level on international goals with the great Thierry Henry, while Adrien Rabiot and Kylian Mbappe added the others for an eventual 4-1 success.

The goals just wouldn’t come for Christian Eriksen’s Danes, though, as they were pegged back by Tunisia to leave them with work to do.
