Aston Villa historic record

Aston Villa have enjoyed considerable success over their long football history, boasting a number of domestic and continental trophies.

Seven-time champions of the old first division, Villa have so far been unable to match their league standings of old in the Premier League era.

They did finish second in the inaugural EPL season in 1992/93 and remained top half regulars on the log around the turn of the century.

A trio of top-six finishes in the table was the reward for popular boss Martin O’Neill between 2008-10.

But they slipped back into the pecking order and failed to arrest the slide down the Premier League standings, suffering relegation to the Championship in 2016.

The club’s last major trophy was their fifth League Cup success in 1996, going into the trophy cabinet along with seven FA Cup wins.

Villa were also crowned champions of Europe thanks to their European Cup success of 1982.

About Aston Villa

Aston Villa Football Club regained their place in the English Premier League ahead of the 2019/20 season.

The Villans had been ever-present in the standings since the start of the EPL in 1992 before suffering relegation to the Championship in 2016.

Playing at one of the most historic football stadiums in the country at Villa Park, the West Midlands club has a long and storied history as a central figure of the English game.

Villa made their top flight comeback via promotion under coach Dean Smith, a boyhood fan of the club, becoming the sole representative from England’s second city in the top tier.

With arch-rivals Birmingham still in the Championship, Villa fans have been left to turn to Wolverhampton Wanders for some derby spirit in the Premier League.

They now have the task of recapturing the relative glory days in the top half of the EPL under popular boss Martin O’Neill.
