Newcastle United historic record

Newcastle have never dropped below the second tier of English football since joining the Football League in 1893, making them one of the largest soccer clubs in the country.

Fans of the Toon Army could be forgiven for thinking you needed to be born in the 19th century to remember the club winning a major trophy.

The FA Cup trophy has been taken back to Tyneside on a notable six occasions down the years, albeit the last of those coming back in 1955.

They have won the First Division title on four occasions, too, with their 1926/27 success the most recent following a golden spell of three league titles just after the turn of the last century.

The most recent trophies to grace the St James’ Park cabinet are the pair of Championship titles won in 2017 and 2010, as the Magpies hauled themselves back to the Premier League from the second tier.

About Newcastle United

Newcastle United Football Club are an English soccer side seemingly in a perennial battle to prove its worst days aren’t behind it.

Massively supported and mainstays of the Premier League standings, the club has yet to crack the top end of the EPL table, hindered by the turbulent, unpopular ownership of Mike Ashley since 2007.

Newcastle play their home fixtures at St James’ Park, one of the most imposing football stadiums in the country, which sits in the heart of the north east city.

The Tyneside club contest one of the feistiest rivalries in the English game when they face Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear Derby.

Middlesbrough are also considered as rivals for the club, only for the fixtures to be interrupted by all three clubs spending spells outside of the EPL.

Steve Bruce returned to his home town club ahead of the 2019/20 season, as Newcastle looked to stabilize in their third Premier League campaign following promotion from the Championship in 2017.
