Tshwane giants Mamelodi Sundowns have thrived in the Premier Soccer League era and have been a dominant force in recent years.
Not only have Pitso Mosimane’s men often topped the PSL standings, but they have also become a force to be reckoned with in the CAF Champions League.
Sundowns enjoyed tremendous success in the late 1990s and the mid-2000s, but the Pitso Mosimane era has arguably been their most fruitful.
Mosimane became the first black coach to lift the Premiership title in 2014 and then followed that up with consistently impressive results in seasons to follow.
Masandawana, as they are affectionately known, have become one of the teams to watch in the PSL along with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. It is always worth checking Mamelodi Sundowns results, fixtures and live scores.
Mamelodi Sundowns became the second PSL team to win the CAF Champions League in 2016. In addition, they lifted the Premiership four times between 2014 and 2019.
These were all with Pitso Mosimane as coach, but Sundowns have also enjoyed huge success under Ted Dumitru, who won them two PSL titles in a row in the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons.
Those were followed up by another title win under Paul Dolezar, who made it three on the trot. Sundowns lost the Premiership crown to Gordon Igesund’s Orlando Pirates in 2001. However, they made the Champions League final that year, losing to Al Ahly.
Ironically, Sundowns won the league under Igesund in 2006-07, but not before they had reclaimed the title during the previous campaign with Neil Tovey and Miguel Gamondi at the helm.
