Paris Olympics 2024: South African athletes in action on 27 July

The 2024 Paris Olympics officially got underway with a spectacular opening ceremony on Friday and the Games can now begin.

While some sports have already kicked, evens will come thick and fast from Saturday and there’s plenty of South African action to look forward to.

Starting at 9:30 with Alexander Peternell in the horse dancing, or dressage if you prefer. Geronay Whitebooi taking part in the judo.

For your midday treat, there is some skateboarding where Brandon Valjalo is in action in the men’s street prelims.

At 12:45, the men’s hockey team  take on the Netherlands while Johanita Scholtz takes part in the badminton at 14:00.

Then, at 15:30 it’s all important  men’s semifinal in the Sevens with South Africa taking on hosts France.

Finally, for your evening entertainment, at the other end of the world, both the men and women’s surfing events get going where Matthew McGillivray and legend Jordy Smith catch some waves at 19:00. Wrapping up the Olympic day is Sarah Baum in the women’s surfing.

Sevens medal matches also on Saturday

Depending on the result between South Africa and France, Team SA will again. A loss against the hosts mean they’ll have to square off for the bronze at 19:00 while a win will see them going for gold at 19:45.
