The Sims 4 will reveal more details about the game’s first DLC of 2021 on 12 January 2021. We already know that the pack will have something to do with ghosts, possibly with some elements from the would-be Happy Haunts Stuff Pack included.
Happy Haunts was the working title for one of the Stuff Pack options during the community-driven pack vote which was eventually won by Nifty Knitting. Some of the possible gameplay features included a career as the Grim Reaper or a Ghost Hunter career.
It’s still not exactly clear what the new Sims 4 pack will feature, but there was another little teaser released, ahead of the official video trailer reveal on Tuesday.
On Monday, ahead of the new pack’s trailer being released, The Sims 4 released another clue about what players can expect from the upcoming pack. The description for the video reveal stream says: “Things are getting a little scary”.
The Sims shared a Tweet introducing a new character called ” Guidry the Ghost”. The teaser does not reveal too much about what might be coming, but it is possible that an overhaul of ghosts as a life state might form part of the pre-pack patch, although that is just speculation at this stage.
The teaser shows Guidry the Ghost in what appears to be a flirty emotional state. Last year, when a new, untitled Sims 4 Stuff Pack was ‘leaked’ on Origin, Sim Gurus responded with several references to romance – which led to much speculation that a romance or wedding planner pack was in the works.
Guidry might also be shaded in the purple colour that indicates he had an emotional death (we are trying to consider all possibilities). But considering the reference to having a “date” with Guidry the Ghost as well as the previous references, it seems more likely that it’s a flirty moodlet.
Sim Guru Ninja also revealed that the ghost’s full name is Claude Ren? Duplantier Guidry while Sim Guru Conor confirmed that The Sims 4 base game will be getting an update ahead of the pack’s release.
Sim Guru Conor also added that Guidry is a “gentleman ghost”. We might be reaching a touch here, but there might be an underlying reference to the Gu?d? family of loa referenced in Haitian Vodou.
One member specifically is known as Baron Samedi, who is usually depicted with a top hat, black tail coat, dark glasses. However, Samedi is not very gentlemanly according to folklore, he is known for “disruption, obscenity, debauchery” and for his love of rum.
However, things get a bit more interesting. The Baron is married to Maman Brigitte, but has a reputation for chasing after mortal women (the flirty moodlet, anyone?).
He also wanders around at crossroads between the worlds of death and the living. He can cure mortals (as long as he thinks it’s worth it) and is happy to hustle for deals. So perhaps there might still be a sort of Grim Reaper-inspired career coming to The Sims 4.
We do know that there was also a reference about an “investigation” with earlier hints, but what it means in the grander scheme of things we’ll only know on Tuesday.
