Update note: The second update is likely to only be released on Thursday and not Tuesday as originally expected.
The Sims 4 will roll out the second part of its May 2021 update on Thursday and there are likely to be significant changes which could affect your mods and custom content.
This update comes ahead of the release of the new Sims 4 interior decorator pack, or The Sims 4: Dream Home Decorator Game Pack, as it is officially called.
The new Game Pack will only be released next week, on 1 June 2021 and more details about the pack will be revealed during the deep dive live stream (which is indeed scheduled for 25 May 2021 at 20:00 SAST (11:00 Pacific Time), but some changes to The Sims 4 base game could have a wide-ranging impact on mods and custom content.
As with any update, you should back up your mods, CC and save folders ahead of time and slowly add these back after you have installed the patch.
What to look out for in the second Sims 4 update in May 2021
Some confirmed changes for Tuesday’s update, as per The Sims 4: Laundry List for May, include:
- Sims cook but don’t autonomously eat/ cook more/ eat quick meal instead
- Sims don’t autonomously eat left-overs
- Baby icon/household picture different colour than Sim
- Unable to go to work/school/class/audition
- Sad Sim All The Time
- Fruits and vegetables in toddlers? inventories
- Resume making potion resets Sim
- Sim stuck at work/school
- [NKSP] Can?t ship on Plopsy
- [JTB] Cantina Door missing from build mode
- [TLSP] Murphy Bed with Loveseat doesn?t have the Relax interaction
- Updating the Hates Children trait
There will also be significant improvements to bunk beds in The Sims 4, with better functionality of objects placed underneath them – including the placement of double beds against a wall with Sims now able to use both sides again.
Other likely changes, which have not officially been confirmed, could include the addition of likes and dislikes, changes to the footprint of couches to allow for the addition of sectional sofas (which have been confirmed for the pack) and changes to counter top footprints ? to allow for the placing of stove tops.
Much like the changes that recently broke all custom content chairs in The Sims 4, updates that change object footprints to accommodate new features can quite brutal for custom content. In some cases, even The Sims 4 base game is impacted ? like with the stacking of windows last year.
Players will have to update their CC manually by downloading the updated files from their original creators or sit tight in the hopes of The Sims 4 Studio rolling out a batch fix for these glitches.
Expected release time for this Sims 4 update
The second May 2021 Sims 4 patch is expected to release at 19:00 SAST (that’s 10:00 Pacific Time), when it does release – possibly on Thursday, although it has not been confirmed yet. Before updating, it is recommended that you start a clean save file with no CC, back up all your other saves and then remove all CC and mods before installing the patch.
After updating your game, use the vanilla save until you are sure all your CC and mods are updated or working as expected.
