Sims 4: How to build round rooms and curved walls, sorta

round rooms curved walls sims 4

The Sims 4 has been going for nearly seven years and the game still does not have an easy option for creating curved walls or round rooms, even though a lot of spherical stuff exists in the game.

Welp. We know, we are starting to sound like all we do is complain about the game. We love The Sims 4, lets get that out of the way first. But, there are a few things we wish we had and easily creating curved rooms is one of them.

None of the information in this tutorial about how to make round rooms or curved walls in The Sims 4 is new information, but having played with these a fair bit recently, we figured its time to stop procrastinating and put together a little guide.

While this a fairly straight-forward process, there might be some aesthetic challenges (almost certainly part of the reason the dev team has not implemented this functionality in The Sims 4 build mode already).

Well deal with how to cover those up in another tutorial in the near future, but for now, lets get cracking how to make round rooms in The Sims 4.

Sims 4 build tutorial: Round rooms and curved walls

In Build Mode, click on the Walls and Empty Rooms option and place one of Rounded Platform prebuilds. The size doesnt matter too much, you can still adjust it later. You can also use the deck option or the generic room option – it really doesn’t matter too much. For the purposes of this article and tutorial, though, we are going to use the platform option.

Make a copy of the platform you just placed and place both next to each other and get both at the same level. You should have something that sort of looks like it wants to be a circle, but hasnt grown up yet. Like this.

Select the platform and bring in the edges until you have a half-circle shape like in the screenshot below. If you only want to create a curved room effect inside a house, you can use this half-circle in the same way as you would a full circle.

Now, select your half circle, make a copy and place it next to its other half and, viola, you have a full circle. Pretty easy, right?

Now we need to get some coverage going around that circle. Depending on what your intentions are with this circle, you have a few options. Maybe you just want a circle for the sake of having a circle. Maybe you want to create a little lapa area for your Sims. Maybe you want to create a curved wall effect somewhere inside the house.

While you do have options for all of these, there is one important thing to know: at the time of writing this guide, you will not be able to use walls or half walls for these kinds of structures. Fences, however, work a treat.

Adding fences to round rooms in The Sims 4 is super simple. Pick your fence, choose the Replace fences option and hover over your circle. The fence should appear automatically and form a curve.

And just to justify the liberty-taking definition of the world walls, as you can see from the image below, while that fence might be very fence-y in category, it is quite wall-like in aesthetic, right?

Different fences will create different effects and some look better than others. But this spherical snapping of fences is the reason we suspect round walls in The Sims 4 build mode might not be that far off from being released as part of an update. Or maybe we’ll never get them and we’ll continue to sulk in our misery and disappointment of what could have been for our second favourite incarnation of The Sims franchise.

If you want to place your round room or curved walls inside a house in The Sims 4, you need to be prepared to deal with some clipping around the edges. Well address some nuanced ways to disguise these in a later article, but using a platform foundation with a thick edge is the quickest and easiest way to disguise most of that unsightly aesthetic.

Sims can walk around on the round room area just fine and there shouldnt be any issues interacting with objects as normal. And, provided that there are walls around your round room/curved area and these walls have a ceiling/roof, the round room should be weatherproof too.

Be warned, though, using fences on these areas is whole different challenge (another tutorial for the near future), so in order for Sims to access them, you’ll have to keep part of it open.
