Uefa Champions League predictions, fixtures and results: 14 – 15 March 2023

Real Madrid host Liverpool and Eintracht Frankfurt go to Napoli, while FC Porto meet Inter Milan and Manchester City play RB Leipzig in Champions League Round of 16 this midweek.

European football’s finest complete the final eight of this season’s Uefa Champions League draw this week, as the Round of 16 comes to a head across the continent.

Four UCL fixtures on Tuesday and Wednesday see the second quarter-final quartet decided.

Fans of Real Madrid will be forgiven for believing their side already have one foot in the last eight, as they take a 5-2 lead into their second leg with Liverpool at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.

A bizarre Anfield night saw Jurgen Klopp’s Reds take an early two-goal lead thanks to Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah.

But a brace from Vinicius Junior, one from Eder Militao and another double from Karim Benzema saw Los Blancos storm into an imposing position.

Napoli are also in good shape after coming out on top in their Round of 16 first leg against Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.

Victor Osimhen did his growing reputation no harm at all with the opening goal, before Giovanni di Lorenzo added a precious second against the Bundesliga side who also had Randal Kolo Muani sent off.

There’s plenty of intrigue around on Tuesday, meanwhile, as knockout regulars FC Porto attempt to squeeze past Inter Milan into the quarter-finals.

They will have to come from behind at the Estadio do Dragao to do so, after Romelu Lukaku’s late goal gave Inter a slender advantage at the San Siro, with Otavio seeing red for the Portuguese club thanks to collecting two bookings in Italy.

And Manchester City still have work to do if they are to end their long wait for European silverware, with stubborn RB Leipzig standing in their way at the Etihad Stadium.

Josko Gvardiol earned a first leg draw for the Germans, who could have been beaten out of sight by that point on another evening.

As it was, Riyad Mahrez produced the only goal to show for the first half dominance of Pep Guardiola’s side, who must break their opponents down at least once more if they are to progress.

Big shots Bayern Munich are already lurking in the quarters after easing past perennial petro-disappointments Paris Saint-Germain in their first knockout round clash.

Joining them are AC Milan, who claimed the scalp of Tottenham on their return to the sharp end of European competition.

Chelsea are flying the flag for the Premier League despite their struggles in domestic football this season, while Benfica breezed past Club Bruges in chalking up a whopping 7-1 aggregate victory last week.
