uefa champions league predictions

The third round of Uefa Champions League group fixtures comes to a climax on Wednesday, as this season’s pool stage hits the halfway mark.

Barcelona have a mountain to climb in a Group E topped by Bayern Munich, while Chelsea and Zenit St Petersburg attempt to hunt down Juventus in Group D.

Manchester United are battling to crack the top two in Group F and it’s all to play for in Group G, whose four clubs are separated by just three points coming into Wednesday’s action.

Group E

The fightback starts here, or so the people of Catalonia will hope, as ailing Barcelona face Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Barca need a win just to overtake their underdog opponents at the Nou Camp, having opened their continental account in shambolic fashion with back-to-back defeats.

It’s left Bayern Munich in prime position to coast into the knockouts, as they head to Portugal to face second-placed Benfica.

Group F

It’s all to play for in Group F of the Champions League, with precious little prizing the four sides apart in the competition so far.

Manchester United will enter the knockout reckoning if they can see off Atalanta at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils recovering from an opening round defeat.

That came at the hands of Young Boys, who host a Villarreal side still in search of their first victory of the campaign.

Group G

Group G is another hotly contested Champions League pool this season, with all four clubs still firmly in the hunt for progression to the latter stages.

Red Bull Salzburg are the only team to win a match so far, with Wolfsburg the visitors across the border for round three.

Continental specialists Sevilla head to northern France, as they attempt to upset unlikely Ligue Un champions Lille.

Group H

Reigning European champions Chelsea are poised to pick up on any slips at the top of Group H in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Thomas Tuchel’s Blues have three points from six as they welcome struggling Swedes Malmo to Stamford Bridge.

Juventus saw off the champs in Turin last time out, with a trip to Zenit St Petersburg the next mission for the Serie A giants.
