England vs Ireland: Six Nations by the numbers

Ireland visit England in the Six Nations at Twickenham on Sunday looking to keep the momentum going from wins in both of their opening fixtures.

Having beaten Scotland before claiming a vital victory over Wales, Ireland now face another big test against their fierce rivals.

There is a fascinating subplot to this encounter as new Ireland head coach comes up against his son, England captain Owen Farrell.

Farrell senior was England’s defence coach under Stuart Lancaster. He took up the same position at Ireland ahead of the 2016 Six Nations after being relieved of his duties following Eddie Jones? takeover as head coach.

Now, he will look to get one over an England side that lost to France in the opening game, but beat Scotland thereafter.

Ireland have a favourable record against their hosts in the Northern Hemisphere’s premier international rugby tournament. Out of 20 past Six Nations fixtures against England, they have won 11 and lost nine.

Even when playing in London, their record is respectable. Ireland have won four of 10 Six Nations games there.
