English Premier League predictions, fixtures and results: Wednesday 1 March 2023

A pair of massive midweek clashes light up the Premier League on Wednesday, as Arsenal host Everton and Liverpool play Wolves.

A little midweek bonus lies in store for fans of English Premier League football this Wednesday.

Two giants are in league action, while several of their rivals take part in the FA Cup Fifth Round elsewhere as the season heads full speed towards its sharp end.

Leaders Arsenal will restore a five-point lead at the top of the EPL if they can do the business against Everton at the Emirates Stadium.

Back-to-back wins on the road at Aston Villa and Leicester have been enough to keep the Gunners sitting pretty at the summit, following their home loss to second-placed Manchester City in a pulsating north London contest.

This also represents a vital game in hand on Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions, who are otherwise occupied in Cup action.

Gabriel Martinelli scored moments after half time at the King Power Stadium to earn all three points for Mikel Arteta’s men, who boast the division’s second healthiest defensive record.

Their visitors are still in the relegation zone despite winning twice under new boss Sean Dyche, including a debut win over the Gunners at Goodison Park a month ago.

A potentially precious home victory over drop rivals Leeds has since been sandwiched between a Merseyside derby loss at Liverpool and Saturday’s irritating defeat to Aston Villa, as the battle for survival gets real with spring in the air.

There is plenty of angst across Stanley Park, too, as Liverpool contest the other Premier League fixture of Wednesday evening against Wolves.

Anfield is the venue as Jurgen Klopp’s side continue their quest to cobble together a convincing run of form and reignite their European qualification aspirations.

The Reds couldn’t make it three wins on the bounce on Saturday night as they were held to a goalless draw at Crystal Palace.

It curtailed a promising mini-sequence that had brought successive 2-0 wins over Everton and watertight Newcastle, lifting them back into continental contention.

But their Black Country visitors are a tricky prospect under former Spain and Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui, who masterminded a stunning 3-0 success in the first fixture between the pair at Molineux four weeks ago.

They remain just three points clear of relegation danger, however, with their treble over the reigning FA Cup winners representing a staggering one-sixth of their total EPL goals all season.

So nerves aplenty under the Anfield lights then, with the home team knowing victory would see them squeak back into sixth place ahead of Fulham.
