FA Cup Fifth Round predictions, fixtures and results: 28 February – 1 March 2023

Manchester United host West Ham, City out to avoid upset and Tottenham go to promotion hopefuls Sheffield United amid eight FA Cup Fifth Round ties.

It may have been shunted to a midweek window this season, but the FA Cup Fifth Round still hogs the limelight this midweek as the Wembley Stadium arch looms into view.

The 16 remaining teams from the English Premier League right down to League Two are competing for quarter-final places on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Manchester United are fresh from winning their first trophy of any description for six years at the weekend, having eased to a 2-0 Wembley win over Newcastle in the EFL Cup final on Sunday.

And they’re back at Old Trafford to tackle EPL strugglers West Ham on Wednesday night, a week on from knocking Barcelona out of the Europa League as their transformation continues in both league and knockout competition under boss Erik ten Hag.

Tottenham continue their own search for silverware at Sheffield United, with their South Yorkshire hosts pushing hard for promotion back to the Premier League come the end of the campaign.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte was given a welcome boost to his recuperation from surgery last weekend, as Harry Kane helped his charges to a 2-0 London derby success against sorry Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

There could be an upset on the south coast, meanwhile, as the EPL’s bottom club Southampton host fourth tier Grimsby, the lowest-ranked team left in the competition.

A change in coach hasn’t yet brought improved fortunes for the Saints, who go up against a club only promoted back to the football league via the National League play-offs at the end of last season.

Wednesday’s other FA Cup fixture is a north west affair, as runaway Championship leaders Burnley welcome fellow Lancastrian outfit Fleetwood to Turf Moor.

Manchester City take centre stage on Tuesday night when they make the trip to the south west to face second tier Bristol City.

Pep Guardiola’s side lifted the Cup in 2019 and are out for more of the same as they stride out under the lights at Ashton Gate.

An all-Premier League affair at Craven Cottage pits Fulham against Leeds.

The Cottagers are flying high in the top flight while the visitors picked up a nerve-shredding victory in their relegation battle at the weekend, as new boss Javi Gracia took charge for the first time.

A Wembley appearance would be just the tonic for Brendan Rodgers and his Leicester following a devilish season so far.

The Foxes have every chance of going one step further at the King Power Stadium, too, with former EPL champions Blackburn the visitors.

And Brighton will look to continue their fine efforts in the Potteries, as they head north to play Stoke for a last eight berth.
