Euro 2024 predictions, fixtures, group standings, results: Wednesday 26 June

The final knockout places are decided at Euro 2024 on Wednesday, as the final pair of groups come to a climax in Germany.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal are already through in advance of their game with Georgia, leaving Turkiye and Czechia to scrap it out for a place in the Round of 16.

A fascinating Group E, meanwhile, sees all four nations kicking off with three points on the board, with Ukraine tackling Belgium and Slovakia playing Romania with calculators at the ready.

Group E: Ukraine vs Belgium – 18.00

Anything could happen in Group E at Euro 2024 on Wednesday, as Ukraine and Belgium go head-to-head in Stuttgart.

All four teams sit locked on three points, with the Belgians holding a potentially precious goal difference advantage over their opponents here.

They had to fight mightily hard to overcome Romania on Saturday night, as goals from Youri Tielemans and Kevin de Bruyne at either end of the contest did the trick.

It didn’t banish the memory of their opening defeat to Slovakia, but the side third in the Fifa World Rankings are at least up and running.

Emotions are understandably high for the Ukrainians on and off the pitch.

And no more so than in Dusseldorf last Friday, when Roman Yaremchuk scored ten minutes from time to seal a 2-1 comeback victory over the Slovakians to leave the pool tantalizingly poised.

Group E: Slovakia vs Romania – 18.00

We could be in for a fraught finale in Group E at Euro 2024 on Wednesday, with Slovakia going up against Romania in Frankfurt.

The pair are locked on three points apiece, as are, incredibly, Belgium and Ukraine.

And that means it’s advantage Romania thanks to the goal difference boost from their healthy, 3-0 opening win over the Ukranians.

Defeat to the Belgians was a blow, but the underdogs still have their fate largely in their own hands to seal a knockout berth.

Similar is true for Slovakia, on a day where any winner knows they will be extending their German stay.

They must recover from having allowed a one-goal lead to turn into a 2-1 loss to Ukraine last Friday, bringing them back down to earth after their famous opening success against the Belgians.

Group F: Czechia vs Turkiye – 21.00

It’s something of a straight shootout in Group F at Euro 2024 on Wednesday, as Czechia and Turkiye battle it out for a coveted place in the Round of 16.

Vincenzo Montella’s talented young Turkish side are in the driving seat, too, having done just enough to overcome neighbours Georgia 3-1 in their opening match.

Their second outing proved rather different as they had to resort to damage limitation in going down 3-0 to Portugal, with Samet Akaydin forever having his name next to a particularly grim own goal.

The Czechs have been nearly-but-not-quite thus far.

It took a 92nd-minute Francisco Conceicao winner to sink them in their opening fixture with the Portuguese, before Patrik Schick was in the right place at the right time to salvage a draw against the Georgians at the weekend.

That leaves the maths pretty straightforward with a draw almost guaranteed to see Turkiye through, while it’s win-or-bust for the Czechs.

Group F: Georgia vs Portugal – 21.00

Portugal can breathe easy going into what could have been an awkward Group F finale against impressive Georgia on Wednesday.

Back-to-back wins for Cristiano Ronaldo and his compatriots saw them breeze through to the Round of 16 at the earliest opportunity.

They were particularly impressive on Saturday as Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes scored either side of a comical Samet Akaydin own goal to wrap up a 3-0 win over Turkiye with just 56 minutes on the clock.

It was a much more straightforward affair than their opening 2-1 victory over stubborn Czechia, which was secured only through Francisco Conceicao’s finish in the 92nd minute.

Georgia have won plenty of friends after bursting onto the big stage for the first time with a never-say-die spirit.

They can play, too, and would have beaten Czechia at the weekend but for Saba Lobjanidze screwing his shot over with the last kick of the match when one-on-one with the keeper.

A draw and a first point at a major tournament does give them a puncher’s chance, though, following their opening loss to Turkiye.

Only a win will do and the minnows will go after any sense of the Portuguese coasting through to the knockout phase.
