Age is just a number, but for Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson, it’s a record he’s been breaking repeatedly since last year.
Hodgson will be 72 years and 210 days when he takes charge of Palace against Watford at Selhurst Park on Saturday. He’s the oldest manager in the history of the English Premier League, beating his own record over and over again.
Hodgson first became the oldest EPL manager on 21 April 2019 at the tender age of 71 years and 255 days. He led Crystal Palace to a 3-2 victory against Arsenal.
He’s followed by Bobby Robson, Sir Alex Ferguson and Neil Warnock as the only other Premier League managers to coach a team in their 70s.
Hodgson could very well break his own record repeatedly over the coming years having just extended his expiring contract for a further year until 2021.
He’s not the oldest manager currently active in the world, though. That honour belongs to Edoardo Reja, who is 74 and the coach of Albania at the time of writing.
