Hello and welcome to today’s episode of I am procrastinating don’t judge me, affectionately referred to as building things in The Sims 4.
There are a lot of cool things you can build in The Sims. From recreating Sponge Bob Square Pants to something more believable like a glass pool.
So, depending on how much time you have to waste, or how much you want to remind yourself of some of the features The Sims 4 is missing, your options are kind of endless.
It’s been six years since the game was released, but to this day there are no drivable cars. Well, unless you use mods that is. Recently, a new open-world mod, Brookheights, pretty much blew everyone away with what is possible when it was released for beta testing.
But not all players are comfortable using mods, especially not the kind that dramatically alters the game.
Fortunately, there is always make believe. Yeah, yeah, the whole of The Sims 4 is make believe, right?
Whether you are a keen builder who enjoys making Sims? lives miserable with so much clutter that they cannot use a single object or whether you simply want a quick and easy way to at least make it look as if cars are a thing in The Sims 4, you can recreate a garage in the game fairly easily.
Please, no judgement here, there are way better builds than this (clutter to boot) available on the gallery. As stated in the intro, this is an episode of Procrastination Station. So, let’s get started.
You don’t need any mods or custom content to do this, but we recommend using TwistedMexi’s Better Build/Buy mod to stop you losing your mind trying to find some of these objects.
Building a garage in The Sims 4 that is pretty much useless
Okay, so it is not completely useless if you are looking for something that serves a decorative purpose or if you want to set up a work bench for your Sim so that they can lockout the world and potter around in the garage.
Obviously you?ll need to turn on cheats in The Sims for this.
Once you have enabled cheats, these are the build cheats you?ll need to use:
- bb.moveobjects
- bb.showhiddenobjects
- bb.showliveeditobjects
For option one, you will need to have the Get Famous pack. This is also the quickest and easiest way to waste time, but the options are a bit limited.
We can?t remember for sure if this specific roof abomination (a term of endearment, promise) was there before all the recently added building shells, but that hardly matters. Except for those of you who like to send angry emails to websites. Don?t write in, Karen.
Anyway, the pack includes a couple of building shells that come pre-built with garages. The Sims 4 team sure do have a twisted sense of humour.
All you have to do is place the shell (after you?ve spent hours digging through debug because you don’t want to listen to us about using the mod mentioned or because you don’t care and you are looking to max out your procrastination effort).
You can still build a useable house next to the building. You can even copy the hideous roof trim to match.
Option two is base game friendly and can be made useable, even if it is not the prettiest of the lot. The Sims 4 base game has a bunch of garage doors (remember what we said about that twisted sense of humour?), which you can place on the front of a wall to create a garage effect.
We expect you?ll do much better than this cataclysmic cluster of ick, but you get the idea.
You can make the garage a bit more believable and usable by adding a usable door through the house (the one in the picture is a shell) and furnish the garage with whatever your heart desires.
If you are feeling extra masochistic on the day you build this, feel free to add one of the debug cars so that you have a constant reminder of the things you long for whenever you open the game.
Or, go the extra step and ‘create’ your own world in The Sims 4 filled with houses that have garages and cars everywhere. The world’s a steaming pile of garbage thrown into a dumpster fire already, it’s really not going to make you feel that much worse.

Happy Simming!
