Unless The Sims 4 team have been on some next level wind-up mission, bunk beds will finally come to the base game in a free update set to be released this week.
Bunk beds have been a highly requested by Sims 4 players ever since the game launched, almost seven years ago.
During the live stream for the celebration of the 21st anniversary of the franchise, a silhouetted image of something representing bunk beds was posted alongside the message ?coming soon?.
There has been much speculation that adding bunk beds to The Sims 4 base game would pave the way for a Generations-style expansion pack. Sim Gurus have said themselves that they do not view the Parenthood pack to be akin to Generations.
There are several other speculation theories about why Generations might be the next DLC for The Sims 4, but for now, we?ll simply focus on the impact bunk beds might have on custom content.
While ?more details? around the update is set to be revealed on Monday (22 March), the actual bunk beds update will be released on 23 March 2021.
As with all other base game updates for The Sims 4, if you use custom content or mods, you might run into some problems after the update.
When an update releases that changes the way some existing objects work, the risk for things going pear-shaped increases. Some examples include bathtubs breaking to accommodate mermaids ahead of Island Living and CC windows losing their transparency when the ability to stack them on top of each other was patched into The Sims 4 base game last year.
Sometimes, though, big updates can be delightfully free of issues. Last year, when the Sims 4 skin tone update rolled out, most Create-a-Sim custom content remained relatively unscathed.
But that does not mean you should just hope for the best. There are some things you can do to mitigate any potential destruction ahead of a Sims 4 base game update.
Backing up your files and saves is always a good place to start (more on how to do that below). You can also install the Better Exceptions mod by TwistedMexi. This is a lifesaver after a patch and can flag issues early on by scanning for potential conflicts.
How to prepare for The Sims 4 bunk beds update in 2021
There is a slightly longer version of this post over here (published prior to the Eco Lifestyle patch), but we?ll give you a quick TL:DR.
- Back up your Sims 4 save files and all your other files.
- Turn off automatic game updates.
- Start a ?vanilla? save that you can use after the update to slowly test whether everything is working.
- Remove your mods and CC folder before starting up your game after the update.
- Don?t add back any script mods until they have been confirmed as working or they have been updated.
- Slowly add back CC ? unless you are 100% certain they have been reported as working or you have updated your files.
As is usually the case after any Sims 4 update, we’ll have an article with an overview of all the details (that we can find) of mods or custom content that is broken, updated and totally fine.
With further details about the update following on Monday, we might have a better idea of how potentially how far reaching the impact of this update might be. Whatever the case, though, the same rules always apply: back up your saves and remove your mods. Happy Simming!
