PSL 2020: Final league positions still possible before restart

The PSL is back and on Tuesday night, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates will meet for a heavyweight clash in South Africa’s Premiership after the pandemic-enforced recess.

Mamelodi Sundowns claimed a fourth straight win and closed to within four points of the league leaders when they defeated Stellenbosch 1-0 away on 11 March.

Orlando Pirates, meanwhile, failed to win or even score in either of their past two league matches prior to the break.

The remaining PSL fixtures will continue on Wednesday with Kaizer Chiefs taking on Wits.

The league is being finished in a hurry, so there will be little time for sides to take stock and reflect on their results. While Chiefs are leading the PSL log at present, the overall picture is much more complicated.

Data from Transfermarkt shows that ten out of the 16 Premiership teams can still win the PSL’s top division title. While the majority of those are unlikely to do so since the results would rely on a complicated array of results going their way, it makes for interesting reading.
