It has now been two weeks since there was a leak of a game pack icon for The Sims 4. We say “a” because we do not know for sure if it is indeed the icon for the new Sims 4 game pack.
All signs point towards it being so, but you just never know until there has been official confirmation.
Speculation has continued in the time since the leak with theories on what the next game Sims 4 pack might be ranging from an Atlantis/underwater pack, a winter resort pack, a Norse mythology pack or, the current front runner on the theories, a Star Wars/space pack crossover of sorts.
There have been no further hints from Sim Gurus on social media (no obvious ones that we could find anyway?) and Simmers are still none the wiser on what to expect in the coming weeks. Big sigh.
The Sims 4: When might the new game pack be announced?
We have previously looked at months in which new Sims 4 packs are released and there has never been a game pack dropped in August. But never say never, right?
On the official Sims forums, one Simmer, elelunicy, spotted an interesting trend recently, noting that so far in 2020, Sims 4 packs have been released 16 days before their 2019 counterparts.
Here are the dates for last year’s packs vs the release dates this year and the trend spotted by elelunicy which, if it holds true, means that the next game pack will drop on 25 August.
Now, we have to keep saying this, but this is speculation and largely a bit of fun ? nothing is official or confirmed until it is officially announced by EA or The Sims 4 team.
- Island Living – 21 June 2019
- Eco Lifestyle ? 5 June 2020
- Moschino ? 13 August 2019
- Nifty Knitting ? 28 July 2020
- Realm of Magic – ?10 September 2019
- GP09 ? 25 August 20202
We reckon it might actually be a really good theory because of an important date for The Sims 4 in September.
The Sims 4: Important date on the horizon
An earlier release date could make sense because The Sims 4 will celebrate its sixth anniversary on 2 September.
Considering the underwhelming 20th anniversary of the Sims franchise as a whole earlier this year, many Simmers hope that The Sims 4 will get something special.
In fact, one of our favourite Sims YouTubers, Simmer Erin, thinks that many of the hints shared by the Sim Gurus actually refer to base game updates coming soon. ?You can watch her video on that below. You can check out the rest of her channel over here.
However, the opposite also holds true. Since pack releases usually coincide with a patch, perhaps the pack will be released after the six-year celebrations to catch both the pack and the Sims 4 birthday update patch (if there is one) all in one.
That timeline would, in theory, allow for two weeks between the announcement of the pack and its release. That would allow for the short trailer and gameplay trailer to be spaced out (no, we don’t know anything, we are not hinting) in order to promote the pack.
The Sims 4 six-month road map
What we do know for sure is that September is the last month of the six-month road map announced by the team in April. An expansion pack (Eco Lifestyle), stuff pack (Nifty Knitting) and finally, a game pack (TBA) formed part of that roadmap.
The team also said that the game pack will be a ?major first?, an enticing promise adding to the hype and anticipation.
