In case you are wondering about the different windows in the cover image, changing the windows and other exterior features of apartments is made possible with TwistedMexi’s T.O.O.L mod.
The new Sims 4 Snowy Escape expansion pack added koi ponds to the game. Setting them up is quite straight forward once you figure out that all you need is a simple lily pad.
But there is another, somewhat surprising feature, of koi ponds (or pools in this instance). You can have them in Sims 4 apartments.
During our testing, they only worked with the San Myshuno apartments that came with the Sims 4 City Living expansion pack, but they worked nonetheless.
The most-recent Sims 4 base game update caused quite a few glitches ? including random crashes and the ability to ?wash? toddlers in a sink ? so it is not clear whether this feature is intended to exist permanently or whether it is simply a temporary glitch.
For the time being, though, adding koi ponds to City Living apartments is really straight-forward.
We have not been able to test whether this works with pools if you do not own the Sims 4 Snowy Escape expansion pack, though.
How to add koi ponds to City Living apartments in The Sims 4
The process is very similar to how you build koi ponds on a normal lot, but it won’t work in Evergreen Harbor apartments, as far we can tell.
- Use the pool tool (it does not work with fountains) to draw your koi pond. We have not tested all of the apartments in City Living, but all of the ones we tested worked. None of the tested apartments were penthouses.
- When attempting to do this in Evergreen Harbor, we got the ?cannot make changes outside of the owned area? error.
- To be sure that this was not some rogue oddity to do with our mods, we removed those and we were still able to add the ?pond? (ie the pool).
- Once you have drawn your pond, head over the fountain tool and find the Snowy Escape Water Lily Patch in the decorations section. You can size it down using the [ key if you want only a small koi pond in your apartment.
- Place the patch on the pool and your new fishy friends should appear. Sims will also be able to swim in the ?pond? (oh for the days of pool ladders being their only way in and out).
- You can prevent this by blocking the route through some of the new half wall heights, though.
